    3. Well almost needless to say they are Stewarts....(humor!)....I think it goes like this: James Stewart in Wilson County (who may have had a brother named William) married Sarah or Sally Hammons somewhere in the 1830's or 1840s. They had some children among whom were James Payton Stewart (in 1863) and Nancy Stewart (in the 1860s I think). In the 1870s they came to Illinois and settled in Brighton, Macoupin County. They may have had some association with Pin Oak Township (I am told it is the later Edwardsville) but I am not sure. Then later James Payton (married Mildred Banks) moved to Alton. He had one son James Arthur who is my grandfather. William's family seems to have migrated over to St. Louis, Mo. At 02:16 PM 11/30/2005, you wrote: >I have a Stewart line from Wilson County, TN.
