Lori, I've got STEWARTs in Troupe Co., GA, but can't find a Calvin STEWART. Do you have other STEWARTs in Troupe Co., GA? -----Original Message----- From: DentonRldntn@aol.com To: STEWART-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 30 Nov 2005 20:28:01 EST Subject: Re: [STEWART] Stewarts in Tennessee What I know about my Stewart line is that Calvin Stewart married Sarah York in Troupe Co. GA and at some point moved to Mississippi where they had a son, Benjamin F. Stewart who married Sarah M. Jackson daughter of Samuel M. Jackson in 1879 in St. Clair or St. Claire Co, MO. Benjamin died after 1892 place unknown. He and Sarah were the parents of Augusta b. 1880, Louis, Leroy, Mary, Charles Calvin Monroe b. 1891 and Cora b. abt. 1892. I found them listed in the 1900 census in Bourbon, Boone Co, MO. Sarah was listed as the head of the family but her information was blackened on the census so I have no dates for her nor information about her. Charles went by Calvin. His obit lists brothers Lewis and Lee and sisters, Gertrude Wheeler and Cora Roberts. Some of the sons changed their last name from Stewart to Steward. This family is next to impossible to find anything about. Charles Calvin Monroe Stewart is my husband's grandfather and he died in the 1960's in Michigan. I have some Stewarts in Tennessee that do not appear to match this group, but the first names Calvin, Monroe, & Benjamin can be found in my line also. Since I have not posted them in a while, thought I'd see if anyone else is researching this group. This line starts with John Kindred Stewart (1815-1888) born N.C. (prob. Montgomery or Moore Co). He came west to McCracken Co KY (1870), then just across the Ohio River to Massac Co. IL (1880), then to Humphreys Co TN where other family members had settled. He had returned back to NC prior to his death. John Kindred Stewart had a son named Calvin Johnson Stewart (1867-1961) born in Montgomery Co NC. Calvin ended up staying in Humphreys Co TN, but also had a lot of ties back to McCracken Co KY. John Kindred Stewart also had a son named Benj. Franklin Stewart. Calvin J. Stewart had a son named Monroe K. Stewart (1894-1973). Monroe was born in Humphreys Co TN and lived in McCracken Co KY (Paducah) for much of his life. Monroe is my wife's GF. Just thought I'd let you know I was born and raised in Metropolis and one of my grandmother's was a STEWART. However my genealogy research has indicated my STEWART line came out of Ohio into Massac County. I have however found that at one time or another there must have been three different lines of STEWART's in Massac County. Kenneth R. My Stewarts (by name) ended up in Overton Co. TN. They go back to Dr. John & Eliz (Alburtis) Stewart. Wayne A.
