    3. I am trying to find out which Stewart family this person belongs to -- I suspect she might be the daughter of my William Stewart, also living in St. Clair Co., AL in 1850. I am also interested in ANY and ALL info on him, as he is very tall brick wall! Name:     Caney Stewart Age:     20 Birth Year:     abt 1830 Birthplace:     Alabama Home in 1850:     District 40, St Clair, Alabama Gender:     Female Family Number:     481 Household Members:     Name     Age Joel Battles     23 Mary A Battles     20 (Many Ann is a MARTIN, according to trees on Ancestry.) Flanagin (William R.= Rolen/Roland)     Spouse's Name: Conny Stewart     Event Date: 19 Nov 1854 Event Place: , Saint Clair, Alabama     Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M59343-1 GS Film number: 1035441 (from familysearch.org) ------------------------------------ As you can see, this Stewart lady's name has been spelled all different ways. I have no idea what her actual name was. Name:     Canna Flannagan Age:     45 Birth Year: abt 1835 Birthplace:     Alabama Home in 1880: Etowah, Alabama Race:     White Gender: Female Relation to Head of House: Self (Head) Marital Status:     Widowed Father's Birthplace:     Georgia Mother's Birthplace:     Alabama Occupation:     Keeping House Household Members:     Name     Age Canna Flannagan     45 Angeline Flannagan     24 Mary Flannagan      18 William R. I only find him on the 1850 census for St. Clair County, AL, married to second wife, Mary/Polly EASON. There are all kinds of family members in the household, and the actual parents for some of them are ? I suppose they could be from a different spouse, but since they are nowhere to be found after this census, there is no way to know for sure. The older Samuel, Oley, the Walleys and Easons went to ARK. The rest vanished. Name:     William Stewart Age:     49 Birth Year:     abt 1801 Birthplace:     Georgia Home in 1850:     District 39, St Clair, Alabama Gender:     Male Family Number:     172 Household Members:     Name     Age William Stewart     49 Polly Stewart     33 Samuel Stewart 21 (married Bethany Eason, 1857) Oley Stewart     19 (married Sion WATERS, later Jackson Newnam in ARK) John Stewart     5 Janes Stewart     4 Martha Stewart     1 Mary Walley     22 (John EASON Jr., 2nd husband, see VanBuren Co., ARK 1860 census) Joseph Walley     7 ( civil war, died in prison) Benjamin Walley     4 ( (married Manerva Jane RAMSEY 1868 ARK)) Joseph Edson     12 (EASON) (enlisted 1861, Quitman ARK) George W Edson     10 (EASON) Edly J Stewart     2 Samuel Stewart     0 (If John, Janes and Martha are William and Polly's children, then do Edly and Samuel belong to Samuel and who?) I sure hope to find someone else related to this Steward(t) family. Thanks in advance. Several years ago I submitted DNA to the FTDNA Stewart Surname Project (Kit #14577) in an effort to narrow the search. I matched only one other Stewart family, those that are known descendants of James Stewart and Mary Ann Lafferty who settled along the Cowpasture River in Augusta Co., VA. I matched this family 67/67 so there is no doubt of a close kinship. Over the years several of these descendants and other researchers of the "Cowpasture Stewarts" and I have tried to find the paper trail to back up the DNA trail with little success. I have had two other male Stuart cousins also test and verify my results by also matching the Cowpasture Stewarts. In 1850 our William Davis Stuart (spelled Stewart on census) was listed on the Winston County, MS census next door to an Aaron and Lucy Stewart of the age to be a brother and just a house or so away from a William & Polly Stewart. Last year we found a descendant of a John A. Stewart living in the house with William & Polly who agreed to test and also matched us and the Cowpasture Stewarts. Over the years his family had also adopted the Stuart spelling and lived not too far from my GG-Grandfather. This match seems to confirm that William & Polly Stewart were the parents of our William Davis Stuart as we have suspected for some time. We also had an "out of wedlock" cousin find us and come to the last family reunion. His father had died some years ago. He looked like the rest of us and fit right in. It was a thrill to find him. William Davis Stuart was born 1823 in AL and died 1907 in Neshoba Co., MS. He married Hannah Jones somewhere in AL and their first child (daughter) was born in AL just before they showed up on the 1850 Winston Census. Hannah Jones was the daughter of Madison Dudley Jones and Hannah Stainton and was mentioned in Dudley's will. Hannah Stainton Jones (and Dudley) was mentioned in her father's (John Stainton) will in Monroe Co., AL. I and several of my Stuart cousins (male and female) have tested autosomal DNA with Ancestry DNA and 23andMe. We are looking for any leads or other matches.     --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! The Stanley C. Browning book, "Tracking the Pioneers" mainly deals with descendants of Capt. Ralph Stewart.   Both are excellent and well researched books. These are some of the "Cowpasture Stewarts" that I match at FTDNA. The Cowpasture Stewarts were from Perthshire, Scotland and moved briefly to Ulster, Ireland before coming to America about 1745 and settling part of the Borden Tract on the Cowpasture River.   Dub, the Stuarts of Roby, TX are some of my cousins and a couple of them also tested at FTDNA.   George Stuart Mississippi   >John Stewart married Margaret Potts in Old Rowan County, NC, and died there.  He was b. abt 1744 and died abt. 1833.  I'll hunt for another John from Iredell that could >be yours.  I have another book on the family entitled My Stewart and Other Kin of Iredell County, NC.  While it has some errors, it is a good reference for the family.   On Tue, Mar 4, 2014 at 11:08 AM, Dub Stewart <dubstewart@cs.com> wrote:   > Linda, > > Could you supply me with the family of John Stewart of Iredell Co.
