Author: hubbardgreer Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: In reading through the thread of this discussion I have a couple of comments. 1) The DAR now has an online, ancestor search that anyone can use. http://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search/?Tab_ID=1 When I just searched for George Stewart, he is listed as one of the three hits. This is a very valuable genealogical tool. If you dig enough in the links you can find an online lineage for George. However, the lineage doesn't include his parents as the DAR wants proof of the Ancestor to you and does not really care who his/her parents were. 2) I suggest you submit your Ancestry DNA to Family Tree DNA (FTDNA). My understanding is that FTDNA is sort of the epicenter for connecting the DNA dots. FTDNA has a Stewart project that you can join; this project also has a Yahoo group. https://www.familytreedna.com You can easily send your Ancestry DNA results over to FTDNA. 3) My Stewart may be related to yours but there were no George's in my Stewart family... There were Stewarts in the Shenandoah Valley before/during the French and Indian War and the Revolution. There is some evidence (found on werelate) that a John Stuart (b before 1680) came to the colonies from Ireland before 1750, with his family, and settled in Augusta County, VA. He had 3 sons, Robert, William and James (my ancestor, d 1757) and two daughters, Mary and Elizabeth. 4) I can get my lineage back to James easily from court records, deeds, wills, etc. But further is murky. I too am trying to get back to Scotland.
