His 1st wife was Caroline, supposedly a Cherokee. they had a first son, named Ferney, who apparently did not survive. This is all listed in the 1850 census, Fannin Co. Texas, where his name is spelled "Stuart". His son that I descended through was James Calvin Stewart, who was born in Bonham, Fannin co, Texas in 1853. The family bible fron my great aunt Opal, said the family came from Kentucky, and were originally from Scotland but spent some time (generations) in Ireland. this tells me they were involved in the "plantations" of Northern Ireland.
