I have been in touch with the Cameronian museum in Hamilton and they are also having problems with this person as they can find no details, I have also been told by family that he was an Officer and that he received the Croix De Guerre but never collected it, this is unlikely as the regiment that he was in was homeguard ? and as far as i know they did not leave Britain , unless he switched regiments?. I know that he married Margaret Jane Gordon on the 23rd June 1916 at Dunedin, Motherwell Rd, Bellshill and that he died on the 27th November 1947 in Mossend, Bellshill, Lanarkshire, unfortunately I cannot find his birth as I am having problems verifying the parents. His father is either Joseph Stewart on the marriage certificate or Patrick Stewart on his death certificate. They may also be the same person as in Patrick Joseph Stewart or Joseph Patrick Stewart. His mother is Margaret McKay, MacLay, McLay, these are the most likely surnames but the are hard to read so there may be another variation of these. I am now looking into the possibility that Stewart is not his Birth Surname and that it may be Mckay. I kow that Alexander Philip McKay was born 1890 to a father Thomas and mother Margaret McKay, the interesting part is the mother her name was formerly Castlejohn ?? and m.s Philips. If i am correct in my thinking that Margaret remarried again after Alexander joined the army but before 1916 when he was married and how would i verify this ?. Any help appreciated as I have been working on this for quite a while now. Regards William Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
