The information from the family Bible shows that he was born November 5, 1828 and that he died October 8, 1886. He told a census taker that he was born in Schenectady, NY (presumably Schenectady County, not within the city) and that his parents were born in New York (presumably the state, not the city). At that point, I have hit a brick wall. He married Margaret Jane Borden on May 12, 1850 and they had 12 children, 3 of whom died in infancy or early childhood. My grandfather, John Borden Stewart, was their 10th child, born September 17, 1874 and died January 1, 1964. Unfortunately, he lost touch with his siblings and their descendents, except for a family with the Stewart surname (I believe it was the Sheldon A. Stewart family) who had a farm on one of the roads intersecting on the right with Steuben County Route 119, or one of the roads branching off Route 119, leading out of Addison toward Cameron Mills. We used to call on them when I was a child in the late 1940s and '50s. William Stewart's farm was in a wooded area at the back of their farm and we once hiked through the woods to look at the remains of the foundation where the house had stood. An elderly man who seemed to be contemporary with my grandfather, or possibly somewhat younger, lived up the road, but I don't know whether he was my grandfather's broth! er or a nephew. I am under the impression that the elderly man was related to Sheldon, but I don't know what the relationship was. We lost contact with the Sheldon Stewart family after my grandfather's death, so I am at a dead end in trying to connect with people who might have genealogy information for William. Any contacts, hints or Internet links would be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
