    1. [STEWART] William Stewart (d)
    2. Cynthia
    3. My "oldest" Stewart (d): William Stewart/d, born about 1801 in GA (sourse 1850 census). 1st wife: Eday/Edy/Edie Battles, daughter of Noel William Battles - married 24 Jan 1828 St. Clair Co. AL -- She died abt 1840. They lived in St. Clair Co., Alabama. Children: Samuel b:abt 1829 AL Olly b: abt 1831 AL Mary b: abt 1828 AL Elizabeth b:abt 1834 AL Heirs of Wm Steward and Edy Battles mentioned in will of Noel Battles, and specifically names Elizabeth. Source: posted by Jane Ervin 2000 on genforum. 2nd wife: Mary "Polly" EASON, married 14 Jan 1845 in St. Clair Co. AL 1850 census St. Clair Co. AL: STEWART, William 49 GA Polly 33 SC Samuel 21 AL Olery? 19 John 5 James 4 Martha 1 Mary Malley? 22 [Walley/Wally] Joseph Malley? 7 Benjamin Malley? 4 Joseph Eason? 12 George W Eason? 10 Eday? Stewart 2 Samuel 1/12 The 3 children - John, James and Martha- I would guess belong to Wm and Polly. The Walley kids belong to Mary (Steward) Walley The Eason kids I would guess to be Polly's from 1st marriage? That would mean she is probably NOT an EASON? Or she was never married? Children: Eday and Samuel Stewart:  Some think they belong to the oldest son, Samuel and his wife Bethany EASON, but I don't see her listed here, and they were not married until 15 Mar 1857 in St. Clair Co. AL, so perhaps he had another wife, who may have died in childbirth? I can't find William Stewart(d) and Polly, their younger children or the little Samuel and Eday  other than this census. All the others: Samuel and wife Bethany, and son, Mancel Olly (Steward) WATERS and 2 children without husband Mary (Steward) who married  a John EASON b: abt 1828 and likely Bethany's brother The Eason children All showed up in VanBuren Co., ARK before 1860, maybe even before 1855, based on birth year of one WATERS child. No idea what happened to Elizabeth, the one named in the will of N.Battles. No idea what became of William Steward, or where he came from, or who his parents were, but would sure like to know. I found this when searching for information on Mancel Steward, because his death record states he was born in Giles Co., TN. I have been unable to find his grandfather, William Steward after the 1850 census in St. Clair Co., AL. William remarried in 1845, so I am wondering if they all left Alabama (or were in TN first) and went to TN before Samuel and family showed up in ARK. Curious about this: U.S. Federal Census Mortality Schedules, 1850-1880 Name:     Wm C Steward Infant of Gender: Male Place of birth: Tennessee Estimated Birth Year: abt 1850 Age: 1 month Month of Death: Jul Census Year: 1850 Census Location: (City, County, State) District 14, Giles, Tennessee Page:     255 Line:     5 Roll:     T655_26 Reason I am curious: I believe there was some tie to Giles Co., TN because Mancel Steward's TX death cert. lists that as his place of birth, although he always lists AL on census records. Informant was daughter by second marriage so I am not sure if she was correct or not. Samuel Steward, son of William, I have the Civil War pension (confed)  filed by his wife, because he died of illness (or disappeared) after being captured and released. I have no other sources for William Steward, other that 1850 census and Alabama marriage record index. I DO NOT have the actual records for the marriages. On Ancestry, some unknowns have William Steward's parents listed as William Steward b: abt 1750 Britain and "some woman from PA" but this doesn't seem correct. Another person had parents listed as James Steward and Ollie. I think this person must have seen this, which is much more of a possibility, in my opinion: * Gone to Georgia, By William C. Stewart On March 15, 1815, William Sr. of Jasper County sold the land he had bought of Scott in 1811 while living in Morgan County, and shortly removed to Alabama. He may have been the William Stewart who with David Files (of a Pendleton, S.C., family) were appointed justices before Dec. 31, 1815 of the new county of Monroe, which at that time Included a large area. William appears as a cotton factor for Peter A. Remsen of Tuscaloosa Falls in 1820, and later applied for government land in Walker County (part of Monroe County in 1815), the tract being granted to him Oct. I, 1823. He died in 1828. *****His son William Jr. may have moved to St. Clair County, Ala. His son James is believed to have died in Georgia; in 1830, Ollie (Olive), widow of James was enumerated in Walker County. James is not found definitely In Jackson County after 1805, unless he were the James enumerated there in 1820. James and Ollie are believed to have had these children: Samuel, born in South Carolina 1800, died in Walker County before 1860: three daughter and two other sons, it is believed; and Manley, born In Georgia c1817, entered land in Wal.ker County. Ala., 1833, died there before 1860. William Sr.’s son John was born In Virginia, Aug. 17, 1783, married Sarah Woods in Jackson County, Ga., March 22, 1813, moved to St. Clair County, Ala., between 1816 and 1816 and shortly after joined his father in Walker County. He and Sarah had no sons, five daughters: Elizabeth born Apr. 5, 1814; in Georgia; Leanah, born Apr. 12, 1816 in Georgia or A1abama; Delaney, born May 4, 1818 In St. Clair County, Ala., was married after 1830 as the second wife of Neal McCarn (of a family from Richmond County, N. C., to Monroe County, Ala., by 1816); and Iraney, born March 16, 1828 in Walker County who was married to Daniel, brother of Neal McCarn. Nothing definite is known of William's daughter Mary. There has been speculation that she may have been the Polly, widow of William Vickery who lived adjoining the Stewarts in Jackson County. Widow Polly had moved to Jasper County before 1827, and on Aug. 26, 1824, a William Vickery entered land in Walker County, Ala., near the farm of William Stewart Sr. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nwga/peggy/peggy.html Does anyone have this book? or know anything about this family? Sorry this is so long, Cynthia - San Diego
