    1. [STEWART] My Oldest Stewart/Stuart
    2. Jean Snow
    3. My oldest Stewart, Albert Stewart, is said to have lived in Londonderry and to have had 4 sons who came to American abt 1775 prior to the Revolution. Son William c. 1727 settled in Virginia. Son Robert settled in Maryland. Son James settled at Duanesburgh, NY Son George b 1739 (my ancestor) settled at Schenectady, NY. From The Stewart Clan Magazine, June 1940 Vol XV11, No 12 p 107: George born in 1739, prob Ireland. Is said to have come to America a short time before 1775 with his brothers William, Robert and James. He m. abt 1778, Elizabeth Ferguson and settled at Schenectady [at that time in Albany County, NY.] George, James, David, Daniel and John Stuart were soldiers in the second regiment of the Albany County troops in the Revolutionary War. Sources for the following are: Census, Federal and State, birth, death records, Civil War records, various County Histories, etc. George Stewart, according to the Federal Census of 1790, residing in Schenectady 1-1-4 children, one of whom was baptized in St. George's Episcopal Church in Schenectady. This must be the George Stuart in History of Schenectady by Willis T. Hanson (privately printed 1916), which says his name appears on the rolls of the 2nd County Albany Militia, and the 2nd Albany County Militia, Land Bounty Rights. Children of George Stewart and Elizabeth Ferguson: James G. no birth or death date. Mary: no birth/death date. m July 24 1798 Gideon DuBois, residence: Walton, Delaware Thomas Ferguson: b Apr 5 1782 m Patricia Hill abt 1811 (6 children) Anna Ferguson baptized Mar 10 1785 m William Holly Margaret, b 1788 m ____ Lewis: Residence Royalton Castle, NY #1 James G. (my ancestor) m Eleanor Blakely. I've found family connections to a Charles Blakeslee and a Hannah Burritt in this line. James evidently moved early to Otsego County, NY. I have no further information about him or his children, but have a great deal about his son George Hulse Stewart (b 1797-d 1869) who enlisted in the Civil War tho' well overage (he lied - an amusing tale!). Jean Stuart Chapman Snow (my grandmother Harriet Stuart was evidently very proud of her Scots heritage. I have photos of my Dad at 2 dressed in an elaborate ruffled plaid dress (as little boys often were in the 1890's) and his older brother Stuart (then about 9) with a very fancy plaid bow at his neck. Harriet made a huge needlework canvas of Queen Elizabeth signing Mary Stuart's death warrant which came down in the family. I wish my grandmother hadn't died young - bet she knew lots about the family!

    2. Jean, I do think we have corresponded before....a long time ago. So you see I still have my brick wall. I find the Williams' in your line interesting, but no way yet to make a connection. Thanks so much for the response. I shall keep this on file.
