My "James Philander Stewart" started in Switzerland Cty, Indiana and moved to Daviess Cty., Indiana in the 1840s. In about 1885, he and most of his adult children went to Adair Cty., Missouri. I don't think any of them went to Iowa, although at least one of James' grandchildren did move to Iowa in the 1920s. I've had no luck in finding anything about James' parents or siblings (if he had any). In each of his census resonses, he states that both parents were from Indiana. A strange item though...when he joined the Union Army in 1862, he writes that he was b. Dec., 1822 in Switzerland Cty., In. However, when a joined the Grand Army of the Republic (a veterans' group) in Mo. in 1895, he writes that he was born in "Ohio". Go figure... Hope you have better luck than I've had with him.
