Which century is the oldest Stewart in your line from? (not who lived to be 100, but how far back you can trace) Please post a query including this oldest Stewart. Include as much information as possible about this person's _immediate_ family (Not a long line of descendants). Include a descriptive subject line. Let others know what records you have already consulted -- cite your sources --- so that a) we don't refer you to records you have already consulted; and b) some kind soul who does look ups won't waste time where you've already exhausted efforts. Yours Aye, Lauren Stewart List Admin ________________________________ For example: Subject: 18th Century Stewart: Charles Edward Stuart, unmarried, Scotland Charles was Pretender to the Scottish throne. His followers were called Jacobites. They defended his claim to the throne in the Battle of Culloden in April 1745. He has no legitimate heirs, however, it is claimed that ..... blah, blah, blah... children's names. This is a family story that has come down from every generation and we were told it would always be denied. I am looking to prove/disprove it once and for all. Please advise the best place/method to research "wrong side of the sheet" births to Royals. ________________________________ Subject: 19th Century Stewart: Alexander Walter Stewart, married to Mary, Alexandria, Virginia, USA As far back as I can trace is to Alexander Walter Stewart, born 1810, married to Mary (possibly Smith) 1830, Alexandria, Virginia, USA. Alexander was a farmer. Alexander had 3 brothers: James (farmer) married Jane Smith Robert (factor) married Mary Boyd Thomas (clerk) married Alice Winkler, widow of Henry Winkler and three sisters: Mary married James Boyd Janet married Edwin Smith Margaret married Robert Boyd Alexander and Mary had 8 children: Alexander George Mary James Jane Janet Michael Robert Family legend is that Alexander's ancestors were farmers in Northern Ireland or in lowland Scotland. However, I haven't found information to substantiate either theory. I have not been able to figure out Mary's maiden name yet. There is not much to go on with the US Census at that time. My information comes from an old family bible, dated 1862. ________________________________ ********************************* PLEASE PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION to the address fields when you are sending or replying to list mail. ---------------------------------- Please visit Clan Stewart in America's web site: http://www.clansstewart.org ------------------------------------ Looking for Scottish games in your area?
