Hi Nora, hope you're well. The NEHGS website is http://www.americanancestors.org/home.html but of course you need to be a member to take real advantage of it. They have an enormous number of records of all kinds, digitalized and available, with more coming almost daily, thanks to thousands of volunteers who help long distance -- I was one of them for awhile but family complications have put me on hold for the moment. I hope you bookmark it and use it regularly, it really is a tremendous resource. Worth joining NEHGS just for that, in fact. I think they must have many more members outside Boston than those within visiting distance of Boston, and they simply had to start making things available for all the rest of us. Good luck, Mary You wrote: Mary, I don't know anything about the vital records of NEHGS. Can you fill me in? Nora Stewart Yahl in St. Louis, MO

Hi Sally, Yes indeed I'm still on the list, though I don't say much these days, everyone's searches seem all to be somewhere else. I'm so sorry to hear of your eyesight, but it must be like freedom to be able to work on the computer anyway. I'm not sure I'd still be living in Greece if I didn't have the internet! :-) There is very little about James Stewart who came over in the Fortune, and one theory is that he went back to the UK shortly afterwards. Or perhaps he died, but people do have children before that, so anything is possible. You can read up on him a bit in the Stewart Clan Magazine, but again, mostly speculation. He was supposed to have lived in Barnstable MA, but Amos Otis who compiled the Barnstable records stopped before he got to S ... wouldn't you know. There are however VRs for Barnstable on the NEHGS site, which I have compiled separately, but they don't go back far enough. James would have been born in the 17th century, not the 18th, in any case. We are talking about shortly after the Mayflower came over. So your James, b. 1726, would still be a couple of generations away from him. And if this family went to Canada, I don't think it would be this line. In the SCM there are these references to him: James MA 16-- s.? came on the "Fortune"? A17, B288, C296, 303, 311, 312, D32, 64, E211, I102, 106, 109, 113, 165, J19, 20, 50, 51 If I can help further, let me know. Hi to all, This is Sally Frances Stewart Ross. I was on this list in the late 90's. I became very ill and lost my eye sight to Behcet's disease in 2002. At one time she told me that my eldest John Stewart "may" have been the son of James Stewart who came over on the ship The Fortune, which was the ship that came after the Mayflower. Well, I now have my James Stewart but need to see if he was on the Fortune. Thanks, Sally

My roadblock continues to be Jacob Stewart b. 1755 in Cumberland or Middlesex Co. NJ. Jacob married Eunice Edith Dunn in Middlesex Co NJ. I lose track of the Stewart's with Jacob's parents, possibly Charles and Mary. None of the Charles Stewart's I have researched match. Eunice Edith b. 1759 was the daughter of Edith Davis and Benjamin Dunn enumerated in "The Dunns of Piscataway" and "The Dunn Family of Piscataway". [Marriage Licenses. The Marriage Ceremony Females. D Divorces By the Court of Chancery, p. 113 Davis, Edith, Cohansie, and Benjamin Dunn, Piscataway 1758 Mar. 28] [Benjamin Dunn born 1737 m. Edith Davis born March 13, 1738/39 in Shiloh, Cumberland NJ] Jacob and Eunice had eleven children: Benjamin 1780 [her father's name] Charles 1781 [his father's name] Edith 1783 (my line) [her mother's name] Mary 1785 [his mother's name] Elizabeth 1788 David 1790 Hannah 1792 Jacob 1794 Silas 1796 Berekiah 1799 John 1801 My direct line comes through Edith Stewart, daughter of Jacob Stewart and Eunice Edith Dunn, married to Richard Riley. My research shows the Riley line came from Maryland starting with Joseph Riley and Sarah Cornelius. Their son Cornelius was Richard's father. Sarah was the daughter of Daniel Cornelius and Elizabeth Moffett. The Stewarts, Rileys, and other family lines settled in Fairfield, Westmoreland Co, PA around 1790. Many of them were Presbyterian, Methodist, and Brethren ministers ...Scott
