Tuesday, October 24, 1939 The Halifax Chronicle, Halifax, N.S. YOUNG - STEWART PICTOU, Oct. 20 - A pretty wedding of interest to a wide circle of friends was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart, Scotsburn, on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. when their youngest daughter Florence Miller Stewart, became the bride of Harlam Young, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Young of Millsville. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. Lloyd MacLellan. ......... the bride given in marriage by her father .........................................
Clipping from unknown paper on unknown date, Ontario, Canada One of the prettiest weddings of the season took place on he 27th December (1904), at the home of Mrs. Jas. Stewart, at Prenevau, Belmont township, when his fourth daughter, Edith S., was united in marriage to Mr. J.T. Abercrombie, of Markdale. Promptly at twelve o'clock while the wedding march was being played by Miss Maggie People, the bride entered the drawing room leaning on the arm of her brother, W. J. Stewart, and took her place under an arch of evergreens and holly, where the groom was awaiting her. Rev. Mr. Campion pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Havelock, securely tied the nuptial know in the presence of about thirty friends and relatives of the bride. The bride look beautiful in a dainty gown of white organdie (sic), trimmed with lace and insertion, and wore a lovely wreath of orange blossoms in her hair. After the nuptial knot was tied and the congratulations had been received, the newly-married (sic) couple led the way to the dining-room where a sumptuous wedding dinner awaited them. The presents to the bride were numerous and very handsome, showing the high esteem in which she is held by a large circle of friends. The bride was attired for her journey home, in a beautiful travelling (sic) suit of grey ladies cloth and hat of the same color, with fur trimming. The hapyy (sic) couple left on the evening train at Havelock amidst showers of rice and good wishes from their numerous friends.

===================================================================== ANCESTRY QUICK TIP ===================================================================== "GETTING OUT" PAYS OFF This week's article on "Getting Out" reminded me of one of the most exciting finds I made for my elusive Stewart family in Virginia. After my mother's death, I was visiting her sister in Virginia. We went to Hanover County just to drive around and get a feel for the place. Neither my mother nor my aunt ever lived there; they were born and grew up in Richmond about twenty-thirty miles away. Nevertheless, we both knew that her father (my grandfather) had been born in Hanover, as had his father. The county figured prominently in the War Between the States where two different campaigns went through Hanover County. Because of this, I decided to check with the Park Service Office for a map, mostly as away of orienting myself within the county confines. There were two--one cheap in black & white, another four times more expensive in color. I opted for the cheap one. Imagine my delight that evening at my Aunt's house when I opened this large map to find three Stewart farms with earthworks running through two of them! That answered another question that was lingering in the back of my mind. Why was my great-great grandfather worth over $3000 in the 1860 census (a considerable sum at the time) and living with his son and worth only $150 in the 1870 census? Having your land fought over and the house possibly shelled (if not fired and destroyed) will leave you much worse off than "before the Yankees came." I still haven't found my great-great-great-grandfather's father, but I am convinced that I will by reading all I can from whatever sources I can find, and by visiting all the places that I can within these (now) United States. He also judged foxes at the first fox show held in this province in 1929.
> My one Stewart lived in New Jersey but > join a volunteer group in Pennsylvania to fight in the Civil War. > Which I have not been able to explain yet. Why didn't he just join a > volunteer group in N.J. ? Any number of reasons you'll probably never know: among others, he might have been over there visiting a buddy and they decided to volunteer together; or maybe he ran away from home because his mother didn't want him to fight... One of my ancestors from NYC ended up enlisting in a little town outside Chicago and both those ideas have occurred to me. Or maybe he didn't like the guy who would have been his commanding officer.
