    3. Thanks again James. I'm pretty familiar with Dickson Co. Cheatham Co., where all my lines lived, was created in 1856 from parts of Dickson, Montgomery, Davidson and Robertson. I have lines that lived in each of those areas which makes me run from county to county when I go there. Of course, I'm not complaining, at least I live close enough to drive there. ----- Original Message ----- From: James Stewart To: STEWART-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, November 29, 2005 12:10 AM Subject: Re: [STEWART] Stewart/Hogan/Bobo try this! http://www.rootsweb.com/~tndickso/hstry.htm -------

    3. I don't know. Who is Walter Stewart and where in Georgia did he settle? There was a Walter Stewart on the Montgomery Co. TN Tax list in 1798 or 1800. Anyway, either he was in the area that became Stewart or Dickson in 1803 and moved on, or he owned land and didn't live there at all. His name doesn't ever show up again in that area after that tax list. ----- Subject: Re: [STEWART] Stewart/Hogan/Bobo Thelam, I thought this line settled in GA? The 1st page has Robert Stewart/Margaret Christy and their 11 children listed. After pouring over many letters, names, dates, etc., it apprears I decended from Robert > Samuel > William > Nancy Jane Stewart-Rice > Frew Stewart Rice > Letha Colleen Rice-Wallace > Blanch Anna Wallace-Shaw (my grandmother) > Lenora Lee Shaw-Harris> Kristi Lee Harris-Krug (that's me). Although it's too late for last summer's reunion, maybe summer of 2006 might work. I'd appreciate any information you can give on our family. The connection would be wonderful! 3. Does anyone know of a Martha Stuart(Stewart) born about 1843 who married a Leander Bethel (Lee) Griffin b.1864 Jefferson Co. TN. They would have married about 1864 in Newport, TN. The courthouse in Cocke County, TN (Newport, TN) burned down in the early 1900's. Many people from Cocke County were married in Jefferson Co. TN. Have you checked the records there? They are available on line. My husband's family were very early into Cocke County so I have learned the other ways of finding info in Cocke County. Go to the cemetary records there; they are on line and fairly decent. Also there are some church records available. I might be able to help you find information if you let me know what you have. Just write me directly. Donna Nichols

    3. Donna, You might want to look at the Stewart Clan Magazine. The indexes are on line, do a goggle search for "Stewart Clan Magazine". Once you get that page search in "places and "C" for Cocke CO TN. Copy those tome numbers and head for the nearest Family History Center or good library asnd check out those tome numbers. I was just looking at a Cocke CO TN Stewart Clan Magazine article. David Stuart/Stewart and wife Rachel Ward left the Wythe CO VA area for Cocke CO YN in the early 1790`s. David Stuart lived in Newport TN. Martha may have been a grandaughter. 3. Hi Teresa-- This has nothing to do with my line of STEWARTs I'm pretty sure. But I have lived on the Neuse River for 20+ years and thought it might prove helpful for someone on this list. Eastern NC was very wild in the 1700s and very sparsely settled since about the only way one could make a living was by tapping the Long-leaf Pine for naval stores. For any one with roots in this area, the book is a really good read. 3. I am posting my New York City Stewart family again with the hope that with new listers a name will ring a bell. Lewis Stewart b. @ 1800 NYC... shoemaker d. 1854 Married Hannah Mead(e) @1826 NYC. d. 1873 ( I know her mother's name is Bridget) Children : Elizabeth Matilda Stewart b.@1829 m. Harry Bidet Charles Lewis Stewart b. @1832 Theodore Stewart b. @ 1837 d. 1887 Caroline Virginia Stewart b. @1840 m. Thomas Waite Edward Stewart b. @1841 James M. Stewart b. 1847 d. 1916 Franklin Stewart b. 1850 d. 1892 (lived in Hudson River State Asylum at time of his death) One of the men above is my great great grandfather. My brick wall is WHO. Theodore Stewart owned 2 saloons/cafes named STEWART'S in NYC in the Wall Street district. ( Warren Street and another on John St). He apparently never married, however, he raised my great grandfather, Theodore Lewis Stewart b@1864 d. 1940. Theodore (the elder) left the bulk of his estate to my great grandfather. I know that Theodore L's mother was Josephine Cushing and was a dressmaker. In the 1880 census, Josephine is living with her mother in NYC while her son Theodore is living with "Uncle???" Theodore and Aunt Caroline Waite and her husband, Thomas Waite. I was able to discover most of this information from an obituary of my great grandfather which led to finding the family in a plot in Green Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn ( has all burials on line!!!) With the names in the plot, I was able to trace back to Lewis.
