hello listers, I recently 'discovered' an index to Stewart Clan Magazine, a fellow researcher sent to a website of a frequent poster to this list; the index is invaluable..thanks to Mary K. Now I need to lookup several entries that I found in the "Place Index". My Stewarts immigrated to Hopkinton, MA in the late 1800's and are possibly the only Stewarts in Hopkinton at that time. Does anyone on this list do lookups in SCM? TIA Jeffrey D. Stewart --------------------------------- Yahoo! Shopping Find Great Deals on Gifts at Yahoo! Shopping

Hi Jean, et al: Due to the high traffic of searches... due to this message being posted on most every list at rootsweb.... and others accessing, it was impossible to get any search done on the 30th. The servers overloaded. Since then, they have narrowed the search period. It does not go the full range of the archives. I forget the cut off, but it is in the 1800s. Word to the wise... save the graphic, not as a pdf file only... the pdf type is absolutly miniscule when printed. Also the "text view" provides a scan of the text.... it is full of hyroglyphics and errors. Yours Aye, Lauren
Don -- I was very glad to see your post re these Stewarts. Although I don't regognize the names, they were apparently in the neighborhood at the same time as my 'brick wall' Stewarts. I would guess that this line of Stewarts is either related to James Stewart Jr, who moved across the river into Clark county, Indiana, or connected in some way to the mysterious William Stewart who died at the battle of Blue Licks. Another possibility is a connection to Robert 'Blackhawk' Stewart. There aren't t o o many other possibilities because Harrod's Creek was a relatively short-lived settlement, but many of the families there settled nearby, a lot of them in Clark county, IN, and a number in what is now the Louisville, KY area. In any case, I know you might not care about the above details, but it's a great footnote (clue?) for my research. Thank you so much. By the way, if anyone on this message board has further details on this Willis Stewart line, please post and/or send me an e-mail. Thanks again. Marjorie Stewart (Senholt) was born January 2, 1912 at the family farm east of the hamlet of Lac Vert, Saskatchewan. As a young girl, Marj was very sports oriented. Her love was baseball, being the back-catcher for the local team. Next, came curling, she often spoke of riding her horse into town to curl. Marjorie left the family farm when she was a young lady and made her home in Saskatoon, where she went to hair dressing school. She left this profession after a very brief time and worked in the ladies sportswear department at Eaton's for twenty-five years. Later in life she married her longtime companion, Walter `Wally' Stewart. Marjorie and Wally did so many things together. There were many fishing trips with their friends, numerous holidays in Hawaii, Australia, and cruises and trips to various parts of Canada to visit relatives. Marj! orie was predeceased by her husband, Walter; her parents, Jack and Annie (Schanky) Senholt; three brothers and six sisters. She is survived by a large number of nieces and nephews and their extended families. In her later years, Marjorie resumed her love affair with the sports world, knowing every team in the NHL, NFL, and in the baseball leagues. She will be sadly missed by her best friend, Bonnie McKenzie of Saskatoon to whom she referred "as the daughter she never had! " There are many close friends in Saskatoon and various places who will miss Marjorie greatly. Those who knew her admired her for her iron will and strength. Marjorie was plaqued with arthritis and severe bronchitis, yet remained very positive. The last years of her long life were spent at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon where she received the most excellent care from the very capable and caring staff. Family and friends are to meet at Park Funeral Chapel (311 Third Avenue North) at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov! ember 10, 2005 to proceed to the Graveside Service at Woodlawn Cemeter y, officiated by Rev. Donna Wilson, and then all will return to Park Funeral Chapel for a luncheon in the Arbor Room. Arrangements entrusted to Greg Lalach

I'm responding to a recent post by BasketLady420@aol.com on a David STEWART referenced in the book "Scots Banished to the American Plantations." I tried to email her privately but the email bounced. Anyway, her post caught my eye since I have an ancester named Alexander STEWART who was born around 1700 and came to America around 1715. I've wondered if his coming might have been related to the "15" Scottish rebellion (1715). My page for this Alexander is: www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/3076/AlexSt.html I wonder if there's any sign of him in the above book? Thanks, Steve Sawyer in AZ
OK listers, Here's a real STEWART problem, and I wonder if you have any suggestions or guidance: 1. Known Information 1850 Census Mississippi / Household 47/47 Stewart, Mrs 78 Female b. SCOTLAND Margaret 52 Female NC Effey 40 Female NC Watson, John 20 Male Labourer NC 2. Deduced Information a. Mrs Stewart would have been born about 1772 Perhaps marries at maybe age 25 = marriage say 1797 - 1800? b. Margaret would have been born about 1798. Margaret by virtue of living with Mrs Stewart and by virtue of birth year, is possibly a first child daughter of Mrs Stewart? c. Effey could be a Stewart from another marriage or one of the last children of Mrs Stewart d. If Margaret and Effey are indeed STEWARTs, then they are both either single, OR THEY MAY HAVE ALSO MARRIED STEWART's? 3. Puzzle a. Who is this Mrs Stewart from Scotland? b. Where is her husband (probably dead is a given)? c. Who are the husbands of Margaret and Effey? 4. Ancillary Known Information a. This is in Kemper County, 2 years after my Solomon Stewart removes to Leake County to his new Planation. b. No known relationship to Solomon B. Stewart c. There appears to have possibly been a Hugh Stewart in Kemper Co. as early as 1841. d. We are unaware of a Margaret Stewart, husband of any Stewart, brother to Solomon. (Mary, Martha, Elizabeth, Sarah, Nancy, but no known Margaret) e. At any rate, relating to age, this Mrs Stewart would have been even older than the Stewart brothers' mother, but younger than their grandmother. f. In the 1848 Kemper Co Land Tax Roll, there is a Catherine Stewart, taxed on 40 acres. g. In the 1850 Kemper Co Land Mortality Schedule Catherine Stewart, NC, age 50, dies in Oct of Fever. h. This set of Stewart's does not show in the 1860 Census of Kemper Co, MS. Cheers from 6600 ft, Dick Stewart Colorado
Listers - A book called 'World War One - Honor Roll - Shawnee County, Kansas' is in the library of the Topeka Genealogical Society. It contains names of World War 1 Military men and women. You will find a listing of them on the Topeka Genealogical Society website www.tgstopka.org/honor.html and instructions as to how to get a copy of the page on which your relative appears. There are also pictures in the book. I counted 7 or 8 STEWARD/STEWART names in the listing. Hope this helps some of you find interesting and pertinent information about your ancestors. The Wilson Co. TN Genweb site has a lot of information and old newspaper clips and maps along with the Goodspeed History of Wilson County. It is worth checking out.

Well almost needless to say they are Stewarts....(humor!)....I think it goes like this: James Stewart in Wilson County (who may have had a brother named William) married Sarah or Sally Hammons somewhere in the 1830's or 1840s. They had some children among whom were James Payton Stewart (in 1863) and Nancy Stewart (in the 1860s I think). In the 1870s they came to Illinois and settled in Brighton, Macoupin County. They may have had some association with Pin Oak Township (I am told it is the later Edwardsville) but I am not sure. Then later James Payton (married Mildred Banks) moved to Alton. He had one son James Arthur who is my grandfather. William's family seems to have migrated over to St. Louis, Mo. At 02:16 PM 11/30/2005, you wrote: >I have a Stewart line from Wilson County, TN. Are there any histories of Tennessee that provide more detail about Wilson County? Or histories of Wilson County directly. I know in my area there are several histories of our county from the 1890s and such. At 07:03 PM 11/30/2005, you wrote: >Hi Lori mine are also from Ms., Lincoln and Lawrence Counties. What I know about my Stewart line is that Calvin Stewart married Sarah York in Troupe Co. GA and at some point moved to Mississippi where they had a son, Benjamin F. Stewart who married Sarah M. Jackson daughter of Samuel M. Jackson in 1879 in St. Clair or St. Claire Co, MO. Benjamin died after 1892 place unknown. He and Sarah were the parents of Augusta b. 1880, Louis, Leroy, Mary, Charles Calvin Monroe b. 1891 and Cora b. abt. 1892. I found them listed in the 1900 census in Bourbon, Boone Co, MO. Sarah was listed as the head of the family but her information was blackened on the census so I have no dates for her nor information about her. Charles went by Calvin. His obit lists brothers Lewis and Lee and sisters, Gertrude Wheeler and Cora Roberts. Some of the sons changed their last name from Stewart to Steward. This family is next to impossible to find anything about. Charles Calvin Monroe Stewart is my husband's grandfather and he died in the 1960's in Michigan. Lori
Okay! I have Stewart's in Wilson County. Good luck. Linda
