    3. Thank you Mary. I believe my first information regarding Daniel Forbes was from the Wayne County Historical Society in Lyons, New York in the 1970's. Marjory Allen Perez was the historian. The name has been spelled Forbus as well as Farrowbush (love that name), both of which evolved into Forbes. I shall dig a little deeper to find other resources. Daniel Farrowbush died in 1687 , possibly in Concord. That date coincides with the date of a major Indian raid when many were killed. He was also a prisoner of Cromwell. Deborah Rediat, his wife, then married Alexander Stewart. Thank you again. If only we could find the birth place of Alexander. 3. Speaking of NH . . . maybe I was deleting too quickly; does anyone have info on the Elizabeth Clark who m. William Stewart in NH, as well as the John Clark who m. Elizabeth Stewart in NH? I think they are mentioned on A3 of the SCM, and maybe at C166 also. I'd like to check the next generation or two . . . Mike Stewart Mike, these are descendants of John Stewart b. 1682 known as Charter John of Londonderry, NH and his first Wife Elizabeth Clark b. 1685 d/o John and Agnes Adams Clark. There is much written about this line. Lois Patrie has written a book called A History of Colraine, Massachusetts. It is available for sale through the library at Colraine, MA. B.Frank Severence has written A Genealogy and Biography of the decendants of Walter Stewart of Scotland dealing with this branch of the Londonderry Stewarts. It is out of print, but available to reprint on Heritage.com as are many of the other books of these early New Hampshire and Massachusetts settlers. Also if you want more information go to this URL: http://www.chuckspeed.com/balquhidder/history/Gartnafueran.h tm A very interesting place to browse. Nora Stewart Yahl in St. Louis, MO

Olli gives his occupation as farmer, and his birth in South Carolina. Charlotte: Kentucky. The fact that he gives South Carolina on 1860 census report as where he was from is interesting in that the boundaries could have changed to South Carolina at the time he was born? 3. Dear all, Does anyone recognize the following family members: I am looking for the descendants of Peter and Margaret Stewart (Isle of Skye/Appin Stewarts) and their sons Donald, John and Norman who emigrated to North Carolina and then moved on to Georgia in 1810 and from there possibly Illinois or South Carolina. They were also joined by cousins, Mary Stewart, Catherine Stewart and possibly Annie Stewart. The following were sent to me as possible locations where they may have ended up. Looking at groups settling together with similar names. 1840 Census info shows Norman Stewart IL. Kane Co. page 013 Peter Stewart IL. Coles Co 156 John Stewart same 1830 shows using name Norman Stewart as a guide line: Norman Stewart S.C. Chesterfield District page 264 John Stewart Same same Peter Stewart S.C. Darlington District page233 These 2 districts may be close together. She sent also (2) Peter Stewart 1830 Census, one in Ga. Bibb Co 065 N.C. Northampton Co page 101 1840 also shows only name (Donaldson Steward ) N.C. Northampton Co. page 087 All three sons were most likely grown and there may have been others with them. Norman had served in the Navy during the Napoleonic period. Family in Canada were in contact in the 1800s, but those that knew the particulars are now gone. If you have any connection or if your family was from the Isle of Skye, please let me know. Best Regards, Randy Stewart Victoria, B.C., Canada

Unfortunately there is no census report for 1820 Montgomery Co NC. In 1830 there was Spencer, Laban, Shadrack, Joseph and a John Stewart still living in Montgomery Co NC. We are lucky in the fact that several family researchers before us were active genealogists which has given us a foundation of information to work with, however, we are finding new information because of the efforts of many descendent cousins actively working on Stewart and associated families along with the fact that information is more available to us and we are able to communicate thru available technology. If you are interested in joining our research group, please email me; be sure you write "Stewart" in the subject line so your email won't be lost...we would love to have you join us. 2. Mary, Thanks for the information about the Maynard/Stewart connections. According to Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project, Thaddeus Maynard married Elizabeth and William Stewart Maynard was their child. The information did not identify Elizabeth's surname. I am assuming that her surname was Stewart. William Stewart Maynard was born on May 19, 1803. This information did not identify William's wife, but it is possible that William did marry my Polly Clark (b.1795). I appreciate the time to took to help me with my family research. Jim Taylor

    1. Irish Censuses - good(ish) news
    2. David Quinn
    3. Having been frustrated many times trying to find relatives in the 1901 Irish Census on the microfilm copies in the Public Record Office in Belfast I wrote to Peter Hain, Secretary (meaning senior minister) for Northern Ireland suggesting that there should be a government effort to computerise (and therefore index by name) the 1901 Census. My arguments were: a.. that the England and Wales censuses and the Scottish census had been put online so why not the Irish b.. that this would make up to some extent for the wanton destruction the 19th century Irish censuses in WW1 (allegedly for the pulp paper, but then why didn't they destroy the much large English census) c.. that since the exercise had already been done for the rest of Britain the costs were predictable and the software already in place d.. that there was a ready audience for this around the world, especially in America, and that it could be self-funding with the sort of reasonable charges of the English online Census e.. that since the Census belongs to Ireland now it would be a good cross border project I expected the brush off, which I already had from PRONI but instead got the reply that the National Archive of Ireland is collaborating with the Archives of Canada to index and digitise the 1901 and 1911 Irish Censuses. This is good news indeed. The disappointing part is that the timescale is "two to three" years, which may be government speak for "sometime". There is also a policy update by the General Register Office of Northern Ireland to digitise BMDs, not just the indexes (which can be consulted in Belfast but the digitisation of pre 1922 BMDs is half hearted) but the BMD base data. I have written back to propose again that the English National Archive should help out with their obvious expertise (and some funding), which could speed up the dates and partially atone for the original crime. At this stage I would just ask you to broadcast the news around the net and to ancestor seekers you know to keep this in the public eye and make sure it is not quietly forgotten. I shall take a sounding on it next year and maybe if there is little progress we could organise some email lobbying. If you do want to write now I can give you the address. David Quinn

    3. Hi all! I keep resurrecting my hunt, and am looking for any information on my Stewart line. My ggg-grandfather, James Stewart, was born around 1828 in Clinton, PA (Findley Twp, Allegheny County). He moved to Muskingum County, OH in the 1850's, married Lydia McHenry, then moved to Morgan County, OH. I was given some leads from a previous posting, but have lost e-mail addresses. This is what I have: My James is probably the son of another James, born around 1790 in PA, and Isabel, born around 1792 in PA. I do have some church records and the 1850 census to help substantiate this. James (1790) is the son of another James Stewart, died 1826, and Margaret McCune. I would LOVE any information anyone may have about this line. I do know that this family was very involved in the Valley Presbyterian Church in the Clinton, PA area. I believe there is additional information about this bunch in a book recently written about Findley Twp, PA, but the book is not currently in print (I am on a waiting list) and I don't have access to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope all of you have a safe and happy New Year! Tammy Young

    3. Hi Jim, Using the Stewart Clan Magazine, I can't give you specific information on any Stewart-Maynard marriage that might have resulted in William Stewart Maynard, but there were several Maynards who married Stewarts, mainly in Massachusetts. Maynard, --, m.James Barnett, NY 18--: A163 Maynard, --, m.Lovina, NY 18--: F139 Maynard, David P., MA 1847: A128 Maynard, Dorothy, MA 1779: A219, 220, B251 Maynard, Ebenezer, CT 18--: C192 Maynard, John P., m.Celinda, NY 18--: A138 Maynard, Submit, NH 1810: A93, 128 Maynard, Thaddeus, MA 17--: A15 Maynard, Wallace A., PA 1890: B249, H100 I give you these names not to frustrate you but to perhaps give you an idea of somewhere else to look. Have you exhausted the New England sources? People living in Ohio had to come from somewhere in the east, and these places may give you an idea where to look first, especially in that timeline. Good luck, Mary Mary Kyritsis Kifissia, Greece > I am hoping that someone on this list may have the Maynard/Stewart > connection and help me to confirm William Stewart Maynard as Polly > Clark's husband.
