I am also searching for family of Helen Daggett, starting with John B. Stewart, born May 7, 1825, a minister, married April 27, 1850 in Richmond, Ohio to Nancy MacGregor. Their daughter was Mary Stewart, born 1856. She married Charles Daniel Daggett in 1875, and they had 4 children: Ruth, Helen, John Stewart, and Maud Daggett. Helen Daggett, born 1877, married Byron Schimmerhorn Harvey in 1902. They lived in Chicago and had 3 sons, Byron Schiummerhorn Harvey Jr., John Stewart Harvey and Charles Daggett Harvey. Anyone have any connection to this line? Thanks! Sherry Stewart

M, Look closely to Fauquier CO VA records, your James was there. I would also check Stafford, Spotsylvania Co records as well. There is a member on his list from this line who has particpated in the Stewart DNA project. This line went to KY. Allied surnames would include NORMAN. Ida, I found John Stewart, the brother of Evan on the Benton CO MO census for 1880. He was born in NC, father in NC and mother in NC. Teresa --- IDAMADISON@aol.com wrote: > __________________________________________ Yahoo! DSL Something to write home about. Just $16.99/mo. or less. dsl.yahoo.com
Hi Ida, As you know, in my line had had 2 Stewart`s who with their families moved to Greenville, SC between 1795-1797. Really Nathaniel SR could have moved as early as late 1791, as he had a son Nathaniel JR who was already witnessing and buying land in Surry CO NC and Patrick CO VA by abt 1793. Your Hamilton lived right next door to my Edward Stewart (he might have lived on Edward`s land also)), as proven by a deed where it mentions land next to what was Edward Stewart`s and where Hamilton Stewart used to live (deed abt 1802). Your Hamilton is in Surry for the 1797 and 1798 tax lists, these were personal property taxes, not land taxes. I assume Evan is the only living child of Hamilton Stewart SR on any 1880 census? Nathaniel Stewart SR`s kids were all dead by 1880 that I know of. So were all of Edward Stewart`s kids. Nathaniel JR , had a son living in 1880, in Polk CO TN. His name was Daniel Stewart. On the 1880 census, he said he was born in SC age abt 94 (this is not correct, Daniel was born ca 1802-1806) and that his father was born in VA (Nathaniel JR born abt 1770-1774). Now, his first cousin Isham Stuart , who was Charles Stewart`s son, Charles was also Nathaniel Sr`s son, said he was born in NC (Surry CO in May of 1804). Charles in on the 1810 Surry CO census, and on the 1820 Buncombe CO NC census. I often wonder if these men who were very old in 1880, could even recall where they were born or where the father was born, ot if it was a mistake made by the census taker. Many times the census taker got his info from a neighbor, or granddaughter, as all the family was not at home . If your Hamilton married a Bledsoe, and she was Hamilton`s only wife and mother of Evan, she was not born in SC. According to Bob Bledsoe, if she was a dau. of John Bledsoe and Susanna Dawson Bledsoe, then she was born most likely in either Orange or Johnson CO NC. John Bledsoe and wife Susanna moved from Orange CO NC to Surry CO NC in 1771, with sons: Moses, Abraham, William and Benjamin. He traveled with his son in law Col. William Hardin, who had married Sarah Bledsoe. I have found, once again, Hamilton's son Evan listed as Ivin Stewart with second wife Melvina (Bridges) Stewart and her son (listed as a step-son). Evan was then listed as age 81, though he was listed on the 1870 MO census as being 80. (I'm sure I'll age at the same rate! :-) Anyway, his place of birth is listed as TN, but his father's is questionably SC and his mother's is definitely listed as SC. So I'm thinking perhaps Hamilton came from SC. He named no sons Charles, but he was living near a Charles in Surry Co., NC much earlier in his life. Evan didn't die until 1889. He lived in Polk Co,. MO at that time. Teresa, does that information mean anything to you in connecting him to any other Stewarts? If his mother was born in SC, who was the Elizabeth that Hamilton married? Does anyone have marriage records for SC? I have no idea from what county she, or maybe both of them came. Ida

It’ s a biography in an old book called “Biographical Souvenir of the States of Georgia and Florida”, published in 1889. An article in this book is called “Rev. J.L. Stewart”. These Stewarts are said to be descended from the House of Stuart. Archibald Stewart left Scotland in the 1700’s and emigrated to Northern Ireland due to religious persecution. He settled in Londonderry. He married twice (no wives’ names were given) and had 6 sons: John, Samuel, Joseph, William, Archibald, and Alexander. These boys came to Lancaster, PA, then moved to York, SC. Later, they settled in Morgan County, GA, and in AL. Alexander married Elizabeth Barron. His son Alexander was the father of Rev. J.L. It looks like there might be a good chance we are looking for the same Stewart family. James Stewart was my husbands great grandfathers brother. His name was Joseph Stewart. I have some information on their parents. What I have on James Stewart is that he was born in 1848 in Ohio. He married Elizabeth around 1867. In the 1880 census of Kansas , they had three children. John W. ,10 years old, Anna A. , 7, and Emily , 6 years of age. They are showing Elizabeth's parents being from IN. The name Prince has come up in the community that Joseph Stewart lived in. He had moved to Post Oak , MO after he married his wife Hannah. I was kind of wondering if the Prince family was related but I couldn't connect them. Possibly some of Elizabeth's family. I have lots of information that you can sort through and see if you think it's the same family you are looking for. Nice to hear from you. Take care, Cerita Stewart
