Now, the Sells family intermaried with the Stewart`s , Looneys and Holders. I would do some research on Anthony Stewart`s line. Anthony was a son of Hamilton Stewart, and he married 2 times. Anthony died in Franklin CO TN and I believe he had a son named John who died before he did. Anthony`s daughter married a Sells. Teresa

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/7318.2.1.2.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Marian, When you research STEWART, forget about the spelling. The spelling was a flip flop thing. It depended on who took the census, made the deed etc. My last name was on tax records as STEWARD, STUARD, STEWART and finally about 1820 we were Stuart. I still have distant cousins who use the spelling STEWART., and my great grandfather`s grave says STUARD. Miss Territory was at one time Spanish and French. The Chicksaws were all over there, inluding GA and FL. There is on line the Treaty from 1818 (I think that is the date) with all the Colbert Family. I have not done much on the Colbert family, but have spent some time on HOLDER. The Holder`s intermarried with a lot of families, including Stewart, Bledsoe, Hardin. Bledsoe Holder was the son of John Holder and Agnes Bledsoe. And yes, they did live at one time very close to Hamilton Stewart in Surry CO NC and probably later in Franklin CO TN. Another surname that is assoc. is LOONEY. When do you first find your William Stewart and where? Teresa Stuart de Rios

    2. Mary Stewart Kyritsis
    3. Have you searched for the family on the censuses with any luck? One of the wonderful discoveries which occurs more often than you'd think is that a widowed mother lives with her married daughter in her later years. Mary Ann should be on the 1880 census, so I'd suggest you try that one first and work back. Also look for Jacob and Rebecca starting in 1850, presumably in NJ, and if you know of any siblings it's always a good idea to spread the net as widely as you can. Good luck, Mary Mary Kyritsis Kifissia, Greece > Mother despertly wants to know the parentage of her g.g. grandmother, > born 1814 In Mt. Freedom NJ, married Jacob Casner Martin, NJ, 1831 > moved to IN and died LaPorte Co., IN Nov. 2, 1882. Supposedly, her > parents were Jacob Stewart and Rebecca Malick, but can't find > evidence of this. Will certainly appreciate any help and have lots > to share.

I hope Bryan gets in touch with you; he contacted me by mistake. Thanks so much for your help and info!! I am familiar with the Holder name, but can't remember exactly how? I tried to look it up and found that one Crabtree (Zilliah Ann Stewart's maiden name) had married a Holder. I think that I have probably seen the Holders on various census records next to the Stewarts, etc. I just can't remember for sure. Teresa, do you know if the old Miss. Territory kept any types of records? You know, the further I get into genealogy, the more I wonder if I'm not in way over my head! Ha! Do you know what I mean? Teresa, do you think that Hamilton Stewart is the best bet to be the father to my William S. Stewart? Or George? or??? What is Dawes Rolls? I am not familiar with these. Teresa, how do you tie in to the Stewart lines? I notice you use the Stuart spelling. It is said that Mary Stewart, Queen of Scots started that. She had lived in France for quite awhile and liked it. When she returned to Scotland and England, she sometimes signed her name the French way as Marie Stuart. Interesting, huh! Well, I better close. Hope to hear from you soon, and thanks so much for your help!! Bye for now. Marian Warren

What I was telling Marian was there was another Stewart line in Franklin CO TN and Jackson CO AL. I am not sure if they were related, they did however live close to eachother and married into the same families. There was a Goerge Stewart in old Miss. Territory (this was before MS and AL were States). George married a woman named Ann Colbert, who was about 1/2 Indian. I do not know anything about George Stewart`s line. Geroge Stewart and wife Ann had: William , Benjamin and a daughter Elizabeth who married Bledsoe HOLDER. This Holder line moved to MO , TX an OK. The children of Bledsoe Holder and Elizabeth Stewart, are on the Dawes Rolls. Teresa Stuart de Rios

Teresa has a lead on who may be the father of my William Stewart of Franklin Co., Tenn., who was born in Alabama. Perhaps if you try Teresa again. As of now, I know nothing yet about the Stewart Indian blood, although it wouldn't surprise me. Actually, I think most Americans have some Indian blood. Surnames: Brigman Caldwell Conley Craig Granger Stewart Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/7318.2.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Teresa, Your post about a Stewart with Indian blood interested me. I am researching my Stewart line in early Haywood county, TN. I have traced my line back to a Malissa Stewart (through her son Hamblin) in the 1840 Haywood County Census. The census lists: Malissa 40 - b. 1799 NC Hamblin 5 - b. 1835 TN Martha 4 - b. 1836 TN Mary 4 - b. 1836 TN James 2 - b. 1838 TN Harriet 1 - b. 1839 TN Louisa <1 - b. 1840 TN The 1830 census does not list any Stewart's in Haywood county so they probably arrived in the early 1830s. Her husband may have died in 1839 or 1840 since he is not listed in the 1840 census. At any rate, coming forward there never is a husband listed for Malissa and she never remarried. There never were any additional children. My family believes Malissa was a full blooded Cherokee indian. I am looking for any information about this family, but would really like to find out who Malissa's husband was. Thanks, Bryan
