    3. Hi Harris, I have a Dale Dean married to Neva Barnett, marriage date 24 Mar 1946 in Glen Elder, Kansas. No Davenports. I have Stewarts on both sides of the family. On my father's (Barnett side), my great grandmother's maiden name was Mary Ann Stuart. Her family traces back to Rowan/Davidson North Carolina. On my mother's side the Stewarts are from Halifax Va/Caswell-Person NC. 3. Hi Beverly, As far as my records show, Ambrose Barnett does not connect with my line of Barnetts. Ron Barnett -----Original Message----- From: Beverly Parker [mailto:beverlyp@runestone.net] Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2006 10:18 AM To: STEWART-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [STEWART] Re: Stewart's in Fauquier Co., VA Hi Teresa, Susan states in the 1880 Fed Census for Richland Co., IL that her father was born in Ireland. Susan also states in the 1880 census that her mother was born in KY although other researchers say she was born in VA. Only the marriage is proven to my satisfaction by marriage records of Fauquier Co. VA which do list her father as Ambrose Barnett. I believed it was the Ambrose Barnett who married Judith Neville in 1766 but cannot prove it and now believe it may be another Ambrose Barnett. There is one who is married to a Thornton which is a name used for her son and grandson's. > >Hi Teresa, Beverly, > >There were Barnetts in Ireland that came to Virginia. 3. Harris, The first Dean I find is Henry Harrison Dean and brother Howell Harrison Dean in Henry CO VA 1782. They both signed a deed for my John Stewart in Patrick CO VA in 1791. John`s son Joseph, who was the youngest married a Margaret Dean. I then find an Anthony Dean who was a War of 1812 Soldier in SC married to a Susanna, in Grayson CO VA court records. Anthony Dean probably died in the war of 1812 and his wife came back to VA where his estate was setttled. I believe Anthony Dean is related, as several members of my family and allied families were involved in this court case. Ring any bells, an Anthony Dean in SC, War of 1812? The messages that come to the list from the Message Board NEVER have the early thread and it's sometimes just about impossible to figure out what they're talking about without going to the message board itself and then finding out it's nothing you can help with anyway. A little bit of the original message would be very useful when responding, for when it gets to the list! :-) Mary in Greece

    1. ADMIN NOTE: off topic... a bit of Administriviia -->Re: [STEWART] Re: quoting entire messages & the gatewayed items
    2. Hello All: Actually, this is Administrivia, not Stewart related. And as such, actually is off topic. Further discussion, if desired/needed should be addressed to me directly, at my admin address of Stewart-admin@rootsweb.com Administrivia is to be conducted off list, in order to not interrupt the flow of the list. ADMIN NOTES are just that... not the beginning of a thread... and no on list responses are necessary nor are they desireable. Not to say that I am closed with regard to discussion... just that 1000+/- folks don't need to be subjected to same. .................................. Sorry, Mary... that is the nature of the boards and the gateway. The quoting of someone's earlier message in a board post is not recommended, nor is it necessary in the board culture. The information is right there for folks to read. To repost the poster's message within another's post is an infringment of copyright. To quote bits as stated are unnecessary as they are there to be seen. The links to the thread are easily accessed via the link in the gatewayed post. I know this seems, at times, as a PITA... however, consider that the message has been delivered to your inbox to picque your interest... you have not had to go and search the thousands of posts to find it. Current count of Stewart board messages = 9583. If it is of interest, one need only click the link to view the discussion that occurred earlier. Being as there are folks that post to the boards, sometimes on a once only basis, that would not subscribe to the lists, it is beneficial to have the boards gatewayed to the lists, in order to provide the widest possible exposure to the query that just might solve your genealogical puzzle. Is there any way you can tell me if I am on the right track? ----- You have 3 good censuses ahead of Elizabeth's birth to check. The first thing I do is try to find clues how people met, i.e. where did John Smerdon live, in the same town or elsewhere? Track down Charles R. and Helen Stewart in the later censuses too, to see whether they moved and where. And if you're lucky, and it does happen, perhaps some of the grandparents lived with the Smerdon family on later censuses. And of course try to find where you can get the marriage licence for Elizabeth and John Smerdon. I think the 20th century ones did give parents' names. Good luck!

    2. George Newbury
    3. Sunday, 19 Jun 2005 Chilliwack Progress Chilliwack, BC STEWART, John S. "Jock" It is with deep regret, much love and cherished memories that we mark the passing of our father, grandfather and friend, John S. Stewart. Born November 26, 1920 in Craigellachie, Scotland, he passed quietly June 19th at Chilliwack Hospital. He was 84. As a young man, Jock had a distinguished war career as a paratrooper with the SAS serving in Italy, North Africa and the Balkans. The third of four boys, Jock returned to the University of Aberdeen to earn an Honours degree in languages, majoring in French and German. Later, as a member of the Sudan Political Service, he mastered Arabic and applied Arabic law as a District Commissioner in South Sudan where he was respected for his principled and honourable decisions. His memoirs were fondly and cleverly recounted in his book Jungle Jock Sudan. Immigrating to Canada in 1967 with his wife and two children, Jock started his teaching career in French at Agassiz High School before relocating to Chilliwack Junior High. He developed life-long friendships with a number of students and maintained close relationships with many in the community. The three musketeers are now two you are on your own to fight over the bill. Jock pursued his love of travel and adventure in his retirement years and visited every continent except Antarctica. An avid gardener, the bounty from his garden was enjoyed by family and friends alike. Jock was predeceased by his deeply beloved wife, Evelyn, and his brothers, Edward and Ali. His youngest brother, Gerald, still resides in Scotland. The memory of his experiences, love and generosity will remain with his children, Charles and Anne, his children-in-law, Cindy and John, and his loving grandchildren, Ian, Megan, Ross, Craig and Andrew. Jock will be remembered for his abundant garden, his glorious stories, and his generosity with both. He will be truly missed. A Memorial Service is planned for 10:00 am on Saturday, June 25th, at Chilliwack United Church, 45835 Spadina Ave., Chilliwack, Reverend Jack Horricks officiating. If family and friends so desire, donations can be made in his name to the SPCA.
