Good morning all, I have just joined the list and I am researching Peter Stewart/Stuart born c1829 Cuminestown Monquhitter Aberdeenshire occupation Stoneware Merchant or Hawker. I have found a Peter Stuart in the 1841 census living in Cuminestown age 12 also living there is Janet Stuart age 45 occ Stoneware retailer , Eliza 10 and Grace 8. In the 1851 census I find Peter Stewart living in New Pitsligo, with a Grace age 19 and Janet age 24. Also in the 1851 census still in Cuminestown is Janet Keith widow age 55 and her grandson Charles age 2. Could this be Janet Stuart also an interesting thing is that Peter Stewart's death certificate states his mother is Jessie Reith. The Keith or Reith could easily be a mistranscription. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would SKS have the 1861 census for Cuminestown and be able to do a lookup for Stewart/Stuart. Or could someone tell me where to find this information. TIA Maryanne South Australia

Dear Listers: Based on off list comments the other day, I thought this post would be a good example to use to show you how to find the beginning of a gatewayed post's thread in the easiest manner. I am cross posting to all the Stewart lists that I admin, as there are likely others that scratch their heads and wonder what the original discussion was about when they see the gatewayed posts midstream or toward the end. Note the URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 This poster chose to post to the Ancestry "side" of the boards. if you prefer to only view via Rootsweb, then change the "an" to "rw" Putting a bit of "air" in so you can spot it easier: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/ an /AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/ rw /AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 This is what the URL would look like to take you to the very same post but viewed with the Rootsweb "skin" http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 To get to the beginning of the thread/discussion you will change the number http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/ 5537.1.1.1 to http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/ 5537 eliminating the #.#.# series, which shows the number of responses, and their placement, to the original. So..... http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 would become http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/5537 or for the Rootsweb side: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AmJBAIB/5537 and will bring you to Paula Melnyk's original post from 02 December 2002. I hope this is helpful to you. It works the same for all the Rootsweb gatewayed posts, not just those on the Stewart list(s). I am not sure where in VA my Stewart's were from, but they appear in the 1850 Census of Spencer Co,KY. His name was James Stewart and in this census his wife appears to be a woman named Mildred. The children listed in the household are Harriet age 17(my 3rd grandmother and named her first son James) and Alexander age 12. Nearby lives an Anderson Stewart age 32,wife Nancy (formerly Nichols(on),daughter Lucy Ann age 1. I believe James was the brother of Charles Stewart who lived in the same county at this time whose wife I am told was Martha Hand. I have been told in the past that James had another son older than Anderson which appears in 1850 Census of Spencer Co,KY. who died about 1847 and had lived in another county. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cindy Fregoe
