Hello Stewart Researchers. I am seeking descendants of the ten (10) children of Levi and Melinda Stewart who lived in Morgan county IL from about 1880 through 1920. Their children and birth dates are: Cora 1871, Allen 1873, Stella 1876, Edward (Edgar?) 1879, Leila 1882, Lettie 1884, William 1887, Iva 1890, Carl 1893 and May Stewart 1894. All but the two first listed were born in Morgan County. Three marriages I believe are correct are for; Cora Stewart who m. David A. Thomas, Allen Stewart m. Mary Elizabeth Mann and Stella m. Albert Vaughan. The marriage of Allen Stewart and Mary Elizabeth Mann produced three known children; Harold , Ethel and Allen M. Stewart, Jr. Allen and Allen, Jr., Stewart were employed by clothiers in Jacksonville Levi Stewart, b. 1845 in Piatt Co., son of Myhew and Elizabeth (Barnes) Stewart. Myhew was the son of Samuel and Sarah (Buffington) Stewart who migrated to Champaign and Piatt Counties Illinois in 1839 from Shelby County, OH. Any lister with connections or corrections to the above are invited to reply or contact me off list. Dick Stewart Carefree, AZ puttpl@cox.net
Once again I am trying to connect with anyone researching Simpson Stewart b. 1749 in Amherst, NH and d. 1841. I would like documentation on this man who married a woman named Hannah. They had eleven children, some being born in Amherst, NH; Jaffrey, NH and Berlin, VT. Most of them died in Berlin. I have gravestone confirmation of some information. I would like to know where he was married and the surname of his wife. Also would like confirmation of his birth in Amherst. He was the son of John and Keturah Holt Stewart who lived in Andover, MA prior to moving to Amherst sometime after their marriage in 1741. Several authors give conflicting information about Simpson's parents and where they died. No information has been found as to where and when Simpson and Hannah were married, or the parentage of Hannah. Can anyone help me? The Line goes: Robert Stewart b. 1655 + Jannette Forsyth b. 1655 Their children: John b. 1682 + Elizabeth Clark Robert b. 1684 + unknown and had two sons: John b. 1714 + Keturah Holt Samuel b. 1716 + Sarah Tarbell 1718-1809 Robert and his sons lived in Andover, MA after coming to Boston in 1718 with his brother John and family as well as their mother. Robert then moved to Amherst, NH at a later date. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Nora Stewart Yahl in St. Louis, MO USA

Hi List-- I have just finished reading Cooney Rickets: Child of the Regiment, by Jack L. Dickinson. It is the history of a young man from Guyandotte (now WV) who joined the 8th VA cavalry at 14. A bit unusual but not very for that day and time. In the book there are several references to STEWARTs and STUARTs (pretty obviously the same family) in what is now West Virginia. These people were from Cabell county, and the surrounding area. The 8th VA cavalry was lead by Albert Gallatin Jenkins from Greenbottom. The STEWARTs mentioned are: James A; Joseph S; W.H.; H.H.; and J. T. There is even a picture of J. S. STEWART as an old man at a reunion of the 8th. Because Cabell county is on the Ohio River, those with Ohio STEWARTs may also be interested. If these are your STEWARTs you might want to get this newish book (2001 first printing) published by Pictorial Histories Publishing Co. Inc., 1416 Quarrier St., Charleston, WV 25301. I read this because of my interest in the Virginia cavalry in the WBTS. But it reinforces my belief that you cannot read enough about history and areas if you are doing genealogicaI research. I know no more than the above about these people since these are way too far west to be my STEWARTs in the War. What about it Teresa ? Are these some of yours?
