Her name was Sallie Stewart b. apprx. 1887 supposedly in Clay Co. Kentucky and relocated to Harlan County around 1920 or so with her brothers Henry, George and Finley Stewart and sister Mellie King. She brought with her my infant grandmother Mae Stewart. Mae's had three sisters, Sophie, Rose and Ludie. All four sisters had different fathers. Sallie was married to one of them at one time, but to the best of my knowledge never changed her last name from Stewart. My grandmother's father was Burchell Stewart. I have been able to trace his line, but have found nothing out about Sallie or her relatives. While in Kentucky I had the opportunity to go through Clay County Census records but to no avail. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

STEWART It may be said that the entire life of Louis H. Stewart, the manager of the Sacramento branch of the Central California canneries, has been passed in or near a fruit cannery. Born in Healdsburg, Sonoma county, during the year 1868, he was the son of Joseph E., and Harrietta (Fiero) Stewart, and in this vale of fruitage and bloom known as the Valley of the Sotoyome, he practically finished his school days and childhood at seventeen; and was preparing for work. He found his first job in T. S. Merchant's fruit canneries in that place, and held it for five years, a portion, or the latter portion of that period being the foreman of the establishment. In 1890 he was employed with Miller & Hotchkiss, fruit canners and packers, also in Healdsburg, and he remained in that place until 1894. His next change was to Geyersville of that county, a warm-belted fruit region, where he took charge of the Walden & Co. fruit canneries until 1901. He then removed to Sacramento, became foreman in the Sacramento branch of the Central California canneries, and two years after was appointed manager. Mr. Stewart is as successful as a manager as he was a foreman. The same care in detail and the same faithfulness in all the obligations that ever burden the business man receive his closest attention. Under his direction are three hundred and fifty people busy handling their part of the great pack of fruit that passes through those canneries every season. He was married in San Francisco February 22, 1893, to Miss Effie Willis, and their children are Freda, Norma, Charlotte, and Willis. The family have a pleasant home at No. 1228 O street. Fraternally the father is an Odd Fellow and in religion is a Baptist, two characteristics believed in the west to make for the best citizenship. Also, he is Republican in his politics, but this does not detract from his civic perfections, as he aids all movements for the upbuilding of the city, where his business interests are centered. The following post was made to the Kincaid list, but I'm interested in the Jenkins/Jinkens and Stewart/Stuart connections. I am a descendant of Hamilton Stuart/Stewart and his son Evan A. Stewart who married Nancy B. Jenkins. Her father's name is not known. Her mother was named Mary and was born in VA. Nancy was born in KY. These Stewarts are not known to have lived in KY, so it is not known where or how Nancy and Evan met and were married. Nancy had brothers William, Joseph and maybe a Richard. Does anyone have any information on the families listed in the second paragraph below, particularly whether any of them had TN, NC or AL connections? << "Joseph Kinkade and wife Elizabeth were original members of the Old Union << Church in Monroe, Co, KY. This is from old records, and I didn't save the << link to this site. << "Olie Comer Forrester sent me a copy of a letter someone had written about a << church in Monroe Co., KY called 'Old Union'. The letter contained a list of << the members of Old Union. The list was found among the personal papers of << Isaac Tipton Reneau. He preached in Southern Kentucky and Central Tennessee << and taught school in Gamaliel, KY in the 1850s. The members at Old Union << were: Louis [Lewis] Byram, John Welch, Nancy Welch, David Jinkens [Jinkins], << Mason Jinkens [""], Cornelius Hall, Ann Hall, David Stewart, Elizabeth << Stewart, Joseph King Kade [census records spell this Kincade], Elizabeth << King Kade [""]. These eleven organized Old Union church, but by 1810 there < <were 125 members and 3 preachers: Louis Byram, David Stewart, and Benjamin << Lynn." Ida
