I will ask my uncles and grandmother (wife of LaVon/Tom) to find out exactly what happened with LeRoy and Daisy, I do know that the census record for 1930 only show LeRoy and my grampa. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Contribution Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.stewart/10035/mb.ashx Message Board Post: GRANVILLE: A funeral service celebrating the life of Doris Jessie Perry Stewart, 92, of Granville, Ohio will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Stephen J. Cramer as celebrant. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville, Ohio. Doris passed away June 27, 2014 at Kendal at Granville. She was born March 15, 1922 in North Fairfield, Ohio to Marjorie and Thayer Perry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William Stewart, her son Mark Stewart and her brother Donald Perry. Doris graduated from North Fairfield High School first in her class then attended Ohio University graduating cum laude in 1943. She began her teaching career at Norwalk City Schools in 1943. She met and married a young Methodist Minister in 1945 who was to become her partner as they explored the worlds of literature, music and travel together. During their time together they raised three sons and Doris resumed her teaching career as they moved through a succession of church appointments in Ohio including the communities of Granville, Bellefontaine, Van Wert and Cincinnati. Following Bill's retirement the couple returned to Granville to enjoy the village's many offerings. Doris was very active in a number of community organizations including Fortnightly Travelers, Winter Picnic, Granville Music Club, Ohio Retired Teachers, United Methodist Women-Tulip Circle and continued her 50 year involvement with PEO. Doris also became an accomplished cook. Her husband would challenge her with recipes from the New York Times and she would tackle them undaunted by complexity of ingredients or execution, usually with success. Both Doris and Bill enjoyed a wanderlust that never faded. Following her husband's passing Doris never lost her love for travel and particularly enjoyed her time on Lake Superior in the small Upper Peninsula town of Eagle Harbor, Michigan. She is survived by son Jonathan and wife Kayla; son Eric and wife Gayle and daughter-in-law Sandra Stewart plus seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 P.M. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home in Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: stephaniesds Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.stewart/8376.3.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I can't find the post where I mentioned Flora. So, some of this may be things that I have already posted, or that you already know. Yes, Flora was Norman and Annie's daughter. Flora was married 16 June 1897 (Loudoun) to Reuben Winston. Flora (b. 10 Aug, 1880) died in her home in a kitchen fire, 10 Oct. 1939. She is buried at Olive Branch Baptist Church, Haymarket, Va (my family's church). Other Stewarts are buried there too, or under the name Washington because of Flora's sister Lena (Norman/Annie's daughter) who married Arthur Washington, (they were living with Annie (widowed) in 1910 Loudoun). I mostly know Stewarts to be buried at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Aldie, Va, though. I have Norman and Annie's kids listed as Flora, Robert Lewis, Annie, Sandy, William, Frederick, Daisey, Richard, Levinia, and Lena. Norman, 21 and Annie, 18 were married 13 Feb 1867 Loudoun. In the book Loudoun Discovered it says that Norman Preston Stewart and Angeline "Annie" Bryant bought 9 acres of flood plain for $5 from Cuthbert "Cut" Rogers on Dec. 15, 1881 (Norman and Annie lived with him in the 1870 Loudoun census). After a flood in 1889, they sold it and moved to the Landmark country of Fauquier, Co., VA. It also says that Norman came to Loudoun as a slave with his father Ashby Stewart. In another part of the book about the Stewartown part of Aldie, it talks about how Stewartown is named after Norman and Annie's son Charles "Uncle Charlie" Stewart, and how the Stewarts now there are his descendants. It says that Charles came back to the mountain in 1927. It says how he bottomed and caned chairs, dug ditches, and sharecropped. It lists his descendants including Rev. James M. Stewart (pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church). It also talks about the singing groups formed at the church. The Stewart Singers in the 1950's and James Stewart Faith Gospel Singers (James Jr.) in the 1970's which traveled to Washington, New York and the Bluemount Concert Series. There is also a Phillip Stewart mentioned as "colored" who bought land there in 1868. I don't know how he is connected. I don't have much more about Norman and Annie themselves except for census info, but I have been collecting information on their descendants, such as obituaries.
