The Stewarts of Appin were descendants of Alexander, the 4th High Steward of Scotland. There most likely were other Alexanders within the Appin Clan but the 4th High Steward is the one you hear most about. The original Alexander inquiry in the 1st post...it seems that Alexander was most likely born in Appin Scotland and died in Marlboro Massachusetts. His parents are named by many to be Alexander and Helen Campbell but I have them having only a single child, Duncan. The Alexander who married Hannah Templar seems to be the son of a Daniel Stewart but Daniel wasn't a common Stewart name in Scotland. So I think over the years there has been a mixing of information here among Alexander Stewart, Helen Campbell, their parents and birthplaces. I am only finding family trees with their information and nothing from reliable sources such as birth records, marriage records, etc. that would indicate who is who. Susan do you have any definitive information on Alexander from records other than family trees that we can begin research from? If we can pinpoint that down, it would be helpful as the only things I find are from unreliable sources and one set says Alexander given the years y! ou state was born in Ireland or Scotland and moved to Mass and another set saying he was born in Mass and died there...both sets married to Hannah Templar but all sorts of options for various parents. Thank you for getting back to me. Yes, Henry C Stewart's parents were Charles and Margaret Carver. I've been working on this line for a long time now and still have many mysteries to solve. Lately, I've been working on Henry's grandchildren. His daughter Eliza Stewart married Ethel Bert Lindsey the Second at North Haven. One or more of their male children changed the last name from Lindsey to Stewart. I'd love to solve that mystery. I'd be happy to fill you in on what I have so far. Spelling wasn't standardized. I've been looking at this line of people for quite a while as well and looked at the vital records for Duxsbury and surrounding towns in Massachusetts. There were no Stewarts in the area. I've been leaning toward his origin in Great Britain in a village called Ducksbarrow but I have no proof. I've been trying to solve some problems in the Stewart and Lindsey lines in the 19C. Do you know about Eliza Stewart and Ethelbert Lindsey? They are my great great grandparents. The only other trace I've found of any of the family listed on that census is the passage to Canada and subsequent marriage & death of his 6th daughter Variona Hogg Laidlaw Stewart. John is my husband's great-great grandfather through his 5th daughter Jeannie Rankin Stewart [b1883 Glasgow] who travelled to South Africa at some point, possibly to join another daughter who had married a farmer there. Lizzie married William Charles "Charlie" Johnson in Hancock County, TN. Lizzie was born ca 1889 and died ca 1914. I have been told she is buried on Neuman's Ridge in Hancock County beside a grave with Luther Johnson on the headstone. I am trying to find out the circumstances of her death and if Luther is a child of hers and Charlie. Lizzie had two children before she died that I am aware of Edgar Johnson and my grandmother Dorothy Mae Johnson. Lizzie's parent were Joseph Albert Johnson and Mary Ann Livesay. The baptism of Donald Stewart in PEI on 2 May 1869 is "Daniel" Stewart. He is referred to as both "Donald Daniel" and "Daniel Donald". Funnily enough he is "Donald" on his tombstone and "Daniel" on his wife's stone. Making the linage past Alexander has been terribly difficult. I suspect the only way is going to be to look at land transfers of his land in Lot 31. I've contacted the Archives to see if they can assist.
