Dear Listers: 1) Rootsweb recently did some maintenance work to the servers. This likely changed DNS server numbers that were included in a "white-listing" agreement with AOL. AOL also was doing some internal work that was affecting (and may still affect?) receipt of Rootsweb (and other?) mail. On the 12th & 13th of November ALL subscribers that have AOL as their ISP or whose ISP uses the AOL servers were unsubscribed from the Stewart list for "excessive bounces." As the mail from Rootsweb was not going through, no one would have received notification of their address being unsubscribed. I have heard that AOLers are now able to receive Rootsweb mail. Therefore, I have just completed (individual) manual subscription of nearly 100 addresses. If you had forgotten you were subscribed to the list or no longer desire to be subscribed to the list, you may follow the directions at the bottom of this message to (again) unsubscribe your address. If you had been subscribed to other Rootsweb lists, you will want to check your subscriptions and resubscribe to any that are no longer showing on your account. Not all Admins are resubscribing the addresses that have fallen off the lists. Nor are we doing it for ALL the lists we may manage. Don't take the chance of missing a connection with a cousin! 2) I have noted for some time that most of the traffic to this list is generated by the gateway from the Message Board. Very few of the posts are being sent by the subscribers to this list. Don't just sit there and wait! Your cousins may actually have subscribed and moved on as they did not see a post from YOU! Time to stop lurking and participate. Take a moment to consider when was the last time you posted to the list. If you don't know, then it has been too long. If you don't know and you are curious, use the archive search engine to find out. You will be surprised, I am certain at how long it has been! Visit: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search Choose Advanced Search Put your email address in the box marked "from" In the box marked "list" put the surname Stewart The address to use to post to the list is: [email protected] Let's hear from you! I am trying to find Margaret Stewart that is supposedly the wife of Patrick Stewart, Earl of Orkney. All the family pages on ancestry say that she is his wife but I can't find any proof of who she was. Does anyone have any information on this? Teresa
Patrick, Second Earl of Orkney, son of Robert Stewart, Grandson of King James V, was beheaded 1614 and his honours and estates forfeited. He died without legitimate issue. Hello Stewart Researchers: Rootsweb has been doing maintenance on the servers this week. In the last two days, 68 AOL subscribers have had their addresses bounced off this list. I suspect that there has been a DNS change or something that AOL does not like and this is the cause for some AOLers to not receive their Rootsweb mail and for the bounce/unsubscriptions. Those that have AOL as their ISP can follow the list via the archives and reply to the list and directly to the poster. AOLers are welcome to resubscribe to the list. I can't assure that they won't get bounced off again til AOL resolves their "differences" with Rootsweb. As I have heard that AOL subscribers are not receiving their mail I suspect that many also do not realize they are no longer subscribed to the Stewart ( and other? ) list. I do all too well remember when it was called Armistice Day..and I knew why, but Veterans's Day says much more. Oddly enough, the important things from Veterans' Day include the Stewart line of my family. My great grandmother, Granny Kate Kennedy (nee Steuart), was with Teddy Roosevelt and Clara Barton, in Cuba. She helped in the hospitals there and opened an 'industrial orphanage' for children in the Matanzas Province, who had lost their families during the Spanish-American War. Her son, Dr. Walter Kennedy, was a battlefield surgeon in France during WWI and at Walter Reed. He was Colonel. While he was overseas, both my grandmother and father survived the 'Spanish flu' and never had the flu again in their lives. My father had just survived a second bout with Rheumatic fever when the Spanish flu hit them. I have here at my house, 2 American flags, one a 50 star from my grandfather's coffin. The other flag, a 48 star flag, is from my father's coffin. My father died on my parents' 25 anniversary, November 8, 1955. His funeral, a military funeral, was held on Nov. 11, 1955. Donna

"Mike Boyd" <[email protected]> Yours Aye, Lauren List Admin ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Mike Boyd <[email protected]> Date: Thu, Nov 11, 2010 at 1:25 AM Subject: [BOYD] Ann Boyd and Alexander Stewart married 27 Nov 1778 at Dreghorn, Ayrshire To: [email protected], [email protected] During my recent trip to Scotland, I found the family of the above. Alexander Stewart was born on 31 August 1760 to James Stewart and Barbara Auld at Dreghorn. Details of Ann is form her headstone at Kilmarnock Laigh Churchyard which says:- Ann Boyd widow of Alexander Stewart Senior died on 10th November 1834, aged 94 years. The author then goes onto question this data by saying:- "If the age of 94 is correct Ann's birthdate would have been 1740, making her 20 years older than her husband and 52 years old when he last child George was born. Has the weather played its part in fading the transcription, was Ann indeed 20 years older than her husband or was the headstone erected by her grandchildren (The order of names on the tombstone points to this) who unaware of her age, added a presumed age got her." In her marriage she is give as being of Irvine, where quite a lot of Boyd families lived. The author adds that"- "More likely her parents were a James Boyd and wife Mary Vas who had a daughter in 1752 in Kilmarnock. An Adam Boyd who was Provost of Kilmarnock in 1730 could well have been her grandfather." The 1994 IGI for the UK has only this entry for Mary Vass:- Ann BOYD (F)..........................
