The Patrick Stewart I have found is the son of Robert Stewart and Janet Kennedy. Robert was the Illegitimate son of James IV. Is this any connection? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Deegreen2000" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, December 7, 2010 6:11:25 PM Subject: Re: [STEWART] Patrick Stewart-Earl of Orkney, Scotland Earl Patrick was not born until 1565-68 to he could not have had a dau that married a man born in 1470. Sir James's wife was Margaret but not Gordon. That is the only Gordon I have in my database and not related to your question, but thought I would throw that out there if you are researching Gordons. I was able to find 3 documents to support my research, but the documents aren't easy to find. Try writing to the Orkney Archives and present them with your question, but check which Patrick you are researching as this James Gordon was born 95 years before the Earl. The Archives was very helpful to me. -----Original Message----- From: Teresa Clark <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, Dec 7, 2010 5:39 pm Subject: Re: [STEWART] Patrick Stewart-Earl of Orkney, Scotland I am trying to find out if he had a daughter named Margaret or Ann that married ames Gordon (1470-1558). Robert was the illigitimate son of James V and Euphemia Elphinston, however James V legitimized him. He married a Kennedy and I have 11 children for them, one being Earl Patrick. Earl Patrick's brother Sir James is the one that had a son Robert that married a female Gordon. I hope I got that right. I have really only looked hard at my line. I descend from Sir James. -----Original Message----- From: Teresa Clark <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, Dec 7, 2010 6:29 pm Subject: Re: [STEWART] Patrick Stewart-Earl of Orkney, Scotland The Patrick Stewart I have found is the son of Robert Stewart and Janet Kennedy. obert was the Illegitimate son of James IV. I keep reading all the email about the Stewart family as I keep hoping I will see a Richard Edward Stewart who married Mary Eliza Jamison in Maury Co. Tn Nov 1872. Mary Eliza was my grandmother's sister. I think Mary Eliza died about 1926 in Nashville, Tn. Has anyone ever heard of this family? [email protected]
Earl Patrick was not born until 1565-68 to he could not have had a dau that married a man born in 1470. His 1st wife was Caroline, supposedly a Cherokee. they had a first son, named Ferney, who apparently did not survive. This is all listed in the 1850 census, Fannin Co. Texas, where his name is spelled "Stuart". His son that I descended through was James Calvin Stewart, who was born in Bonham, Fannin co, Texas in 1853. The family bible fron my great aunt Opal, said the family came from Kentucky, and were originally from Scotland but spent some time (generations) in Ireland. this tells me they were involved in the "plantations" of Northern Ireland. Please help if you can, thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Your John and my John have different DNA results, so we aren't of the same line. Until we got the results, I really thought the John in Augusta might be ours. Good luck with your search, and thanks so much for your response. My John Stuart/Stewart died in 1805 in Surry County, NC. We have first documented him in Henry County, VA, in 1782. This county was adjacent to Surry County, NC, and we have found his oldest son in Surry in 1774. There we're stuck. We know his children because of an estate suit, which is so lucky for us. We are listed in DNA studies under John Stewart of (One of those counties.) John Stewart married Margaret Potts in Rowan, and his son, James Potts Stewart who married Margaret Witherspoon, went to TN and then to IL. Their son, John Stewart who married Jane Leach went back to Carroll County, TN, and after John died, Jane went with her children to Craighead County, AR. Then, her son Abner Potts Stewart went to Independence County, AR. He is my great grandfather. Let me know if anyone needs more info. My gggf was Joseph and Margaret Stewart. I can account for all his sons if Joel was a son. By DNA Joel was definitely of our line. However, lore says when ggf Shadrack went to Arkansas in 1860, he went to visit a brother. No brother there that I know. In his papers was a letter dated 1857 unsigned and addressed to Mother and Father. I think this was his oldest son, whose oldest child was born in Arkansas, and it references the "old man". He talks of going to Putnam and Morgan County. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His grandson's wife told me it was to visit his brother. I can't account for a brother (who would be a son of Joseph)but do know there were relatives there. Would appreciate any input from Arkansas Stewarts who date back this far. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
