    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Milton, Stevens, Waugh, Mitchell, Whited Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0lJBAIB/3820.1.1 Message Board Post: Please E-mail me what you've got. We might be connected. My great grandmother Melissa Almina Milton was b. Sep 1860 Cooperstown, Brown Co, Ill. She married George "Alonzo" Mitchell on 24 Nov 1877, Peoria, Peoria Co, Ill. He died, date ? and she remarried to my great grandfather Johnson David Whited about 1883, only I don't know where. He died 17 Feb 1943, Rushville, Schuyler Co, Ill and is buried in Rushville Cem with his 2nd wife Luttie (Carter). Melissa committed suicide with rat poison, on 10 Aug 1905 at LaGrange, Cooperstown twp., Brown Co. Ill. is buried Cooperstown Cem. (Ref: coroner's report). Melissa also had a sister - Hattie Milton who married William W. Waugh in Schuyler Co, Ill. This marriage record gives her father's name as Thomas Milton and her mother is Elmina Alice (Stevens), born about 1837 Ill. Thomas Milton is on Military Honor Roll, Civil War, Co H, 137th Inf (100 days service) and I have the Ill. state records on him but no one seems to have their death dates, or where Elmina Alice (Stevens) died or cemetary. They are last seen together in the Meredosia, Morgan Co, Ill. 1870 census, then nothing further in census. But, Thomas John Milton ( b. May 1827 Morgan Co, Ill. is "present" at his daughter Melissa Almina Milton's wedding in 1877 in Peoria, Peoria Co, Ill. Last I knew of him. Thomas Milton and Elmina (Stevens) are first seen in the 1860 Versailles, Cooperstown Twp, Brown Co, Ill. census (looks like they just got married and then their daughter Melissa is born later that same year 1860, there.) Then, at the end of his life, Thomas John! Milton is only on the Military Honor Roll for Brown Co and it says at Versailles, Ill. The Brown Co Cemetary Book does not give him in the index or list him within the Henry Cem., Versailles, Brown Co., Ill where the Honor Roll says he is buried. I don't know if his stone is broken, buried in dirt, sunk or never was ordered, but his daughter (my g. grandmother Melissa Almina (Milton) Mitchell Whited did live till 1905, Lagrange, Cooperstown twp, Brown Co., Ill. Please do E-mail me whatever info you have at my E mail address: Allyoop@grics.net It is great to hear from you. We might be connected! I am a novice at computers, myself, so I, too, have difficulty navigating around the web, too.
