Stevens Sr., 78, of Otego, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Samuel S. Stratton Veterans Hospital, Albany. He was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Oneonta, the son of Irving and Minerva (Johnson) Stevens. He married Edna Woodruff in 1942 at Schenevus. He was a United State Army veteran of World War II. He was employed for more than 37 years by Eastern Steel Metal of Oneonta. Bill loved camping, fishing and gardening with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edna Stevens of Otego; five sons and two daughters-in-law, William Stevens Jr. of Florida, Carl and Norma Stevens of Leonardsville, Richard and Kim Stevens of Sidney Center, LeRoy Stevens of Unadilla and Harold Stevens of Oneonta; four daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Dave Stevens of Unadilla, Rose Ann and Tim O'Dell of Latham, Cindy and Richard DiLeena of Unadilla and Florence Grant of Unadilla; one sister, Florence Washburn of Kingston; 30 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. At Mr. Stevens' request, there will be no formal funeral service. There will be private calling hours at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. Mr. Stevens will be cremated at Hillington Crematory, Morris, and his cremains will be buried at Oneonta Plains Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Sidney Moose Club, 20 East Main St., Sidney, N.Y. 13838.
