Hello to the quiet Stevens list. I scanned over 1,000 pages in quite a few more than 40 STEVENS / STEPHENS books and there were still a few books I didn't get to. I must return soon and finish this project. I did find a few things for a few people, but I was hoping for the books to help more of us. I found nothing for sure for myself either. A few people have written back to me about the info I sent helped them. That's great. Now, the good news is that I only scanned pages so far. The book title & call number & the Stevens index in the back or front (if it had one) and scanned a few of the first pages to get a good idea of where the family came from. I just arrived back home tonight and, tomorrow, I will begin reading pages & indexes searching for the names you all gave me. I found many similar names, but the dates never matched or the names dates nearly matched, but the family was a few states off. I have written several letters to people with STEVENS / STEPHENS buried in the same counties where you all told me your family is buried so hopefully this will bring good results. So far the replies are 'I don't know' and 2 positive replies for me. I've written to several people in DNA projects because they have names similar to mine & yours so hopefully that will give some positive results. I thought as I was writing that I might be writing to someone on this list. If so please reply & let me know my error. I received lots more requests than I expected. It was great to see so much excitement on this list and I hope something can be found to help each & everyone of you. I was looking for the parents of Admiral Thomas Holdup STEVENS and learned he was adopted into the STEVENS family. I hope none of our ancestors had name changes that weren't recorded for us to find. While scanning, we had a few unexpcted trips to the doctor's office & emergency room. The doctor says we were bitten by a brown recluse spider, but I think that spider would leave me feeling worse off than I do. And unexpected foot surgery. But, I did my best and I really hope to return soon, so be paitient with me. AND if I promised something to you, please write & REMIND me. Always, DS
Thank you David, for all your effort and work trying to help all of us with Stephens/Stevens brick walls find some answers! Wishing you a fast and complete recovery from the bite and following surgery. Janet Wright still hoping to find the elusive William Stephens father of Absolum, Pulaski, Wayne, Whitley Kentucky
Dear David, Get well soon. Brown recluse can be very terrible and long term. I have read some other info. I am looking for Edward Azel Stevens and you have helped before. Azel Stevens, abt. 1747-1824- married Rebecca Townsend. Could it be a possible connection? Diana Nowell put that on the list board. Couldn't connect with her through the board.
