Author: LorraineGilmer02 Surnames: Stevens, Chapman, Gepford, Asahel, Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.stevens/4083/mb.ashx Message Board Post: not related - for your info only Chapman, Mary Anne Stevens CHAPMAN-Mary Anne Stevens Chapman, November 8, 1916 to June 7, 2007 Mary Chapman, widow of John Robinson Chapman, beloved mother of Steve, Jim and Chris Chapman, passed away June 7th intimately surrounded by her children in the tender care of Heritage House Assisted Living Community in Goleta. She is also survived by her cherished grand-children Scott, Marci, Caroline, Melissa, and extended family members Judi, Susan, John, Wendy, Dan, Julie, and Madeline Grace. Mary was born November 8, 1916 in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of Edgar Foster Stevens and Helen Gepford Stevens, both from Illinois. Her paternal great-grandfather, Asahel Stevens, was a long-standing minister of the First Congregational Church in Peoria during the mid-1800s. This Christian foundation was a continuing family tradition. Mary was predeceased by her husband, John, the love of her life, to whom she was married for 59 years until his passing on March 8, 1999. Mary and John moved to Pasadena, California ! after World War II and raised their three children with devotion, responsibility, sharing, love, laughter and fun. Most of her life Mary was a devoted homemaker. With an unstoppable aptitude for fun, she led a life of service in a low-key and endearing way. Mary and John loved good books and golf and shared many fabulous travels. Music and singing were an intrinsic part of her every day for her whole life. They moved to Calabasas in 1964 and retired to Alisal Ranch in Solvang in 1979. The family is especially grateful to old friends in St. Louis, Pasadena, and Alisal Ranch, the community of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Los Olivos, Heritage House in Goleta, and Hospice. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 11th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Los Olivos with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Marks Endowment Special Fund, at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 2901 Nojoqui Avenue, Los Olivos, CA! 93441.
