He apparently designed a horse-drawn ambulance attributed to Tripler, which was the dominant large ambulance used during the first year or so in the Civil War. Most likely he worked with Charles Stuart Tripler Surgeon, USA, who was in Cincinnati from 1856-1861 and returned in 1863 and died in 1866. The Cinti Gazette records that Stevens built a Tripler-like ambulance and that he also built at least three ambulances under contract to the Federal Government. Shop was at 55 E 5th St here in Cincinnati. After an apparent considerable success, he dropped out - not found in 1864, and his location was taken over by Moore and Albrecht.
