Hello, I would suggest checking under spelling Alfred, there is One that Pops up in 1860 Census - Western District, St Mary, LA- age 3 - about the right age. BTW what Race was your Alford. Also it has been my Experience that Stevens is Recorded with a Myriad of spellings.
