David Yes, we live in Grants Pass, Oregon and a JAMES T. STEVENS was one of the children of JAMES D. and SARAH STEVENS that I couldn't find after the Civil War. Wouldn't that be a hoot if one of his descendants was living right here? I am impressed with your research. When I look for a Stevens in any census I too will write down any Stevens there in case they are related. The information I had for John J., my husbands Grandfather, said he was born in Miller Co., MO. In Miller Co. was a Stephens family that Included a James but said James didn't have a son named John J. This family was of the PETER STEPHENS line from the Shenandoah Valley, VA in the early 1700's. Our James showed up in Miller Co. in the 1860's. Do you have the book on the PETER STEPHENS lineage? If not I would be happy to send it to you, it is loose leaf. I have not been able to find our line in it. That line is thought to be German but I'm not sure of that.
