I searched most of the night on this one and a few others. I did a variety of searches on the 1930 census. I tried all of his names and I tried misspelling his name (which works more times than I'd wish), but not on Merle Merlin Carey Stevens. For a "final resting place" search, have you tried "Find-A-Grave" ? I use FIND-A-GRAVE quite a lot & I did a variety of searches on it and found a dozen or so possible names and a few even had a close birthdate, but didn't seem to match. You never know when someone like me will find his grave & take a headstone photo & post it. Are there other sites like Find-A-Grave ? Hello again 'cousin' , I have tried 'Find-A-Grave' several times. Also, I have bounced off the SSN Death Records---which do not display middle names or initials---whereas, I made some very long trips to Erie, NY and Amity, PA to find the gravestones had a different middle initial ---and the church records confirmed that these two individuals were not the --- Merle [Merlin] CAREY Stevens that I seek. I have been searching for MCS since 1949---visiting SC, GA, AL, MI, MS, TX, NM, FL, TN, KY, NC, VA & West VA., and I should have recorded all the STEVENS headstones that I saw. I should add that he had no war record, but I did find his WW1 draft registration card showing that he a right ankle problem and was exempt from the draft at age 22. Other than a birth 'notification'---a one-line entry in the town record of Roanoke, AL that was called in 10 days after his birth in Rock Mills, AL ---there is no official or 'delayed' birth certification. Talk about 'brick walls'. Thanks, Prof.M.Stevens momo7@sover.net ================ David Stevens wrote: >I searched most of the night on this one and a few others. >I did a variety of searches on the 1930 census. When I get frustrated at my own brick walls, I like to switch & work on other people's brick walls. It usually helps to get a different perspective. I have a Cherokee ancestor, Lemuel Dugan Long, and he is surrounded by so much mis-information, I get my kids to work on him, because they don't know the false trails. :-) I'm sure I'll add yours to my project & look for him when all my doors seem closed.
