    2. Nancy & Ted
    3. Marilyn, I am intrigued with your Stephens since they parallel my own (well....kinda/sorta !). I suppose there are a ton of Stevens that would match this, but still, it is interesting. My Joseph Stevens / Stephens is b. NY per the 1880 census, in c.1800; married Almira DEE born VERMONT in Greene Co. IL in 1825; moved on to Louisiana MO soon after that where several children were born (none named William: Frank, Oliver, George Washington; John); and he, as well as the Dees, ended up in Hancock Co. IL. Some of the counties you mentioned aren't too far from here, and I suppose there were reasons a whole lot of people were moving into Illinois and Missouri, but it is intriguing to wonder if there is a connection. 1. Re: [STEVENS] Looking for info on George W. Stephens
    2. Gayle, I've done a little work on your problem with finding George W. Stephens after 1900. I assume that he is the 4 year old boy in the household of Marion n. and Mary E Stephens in Jackson Co, Bird Twp with sibblings Ammon/Ameron 14 and Louella 7. If not, then disregard the rest of this email. In 1910 they are in Jackson Co, Bird Twp A. M Stephens 72 married four times MO KY Maryland Mary 51 married one time 19 years mother of 2 children/2 living MO IL United States Louella 17 Ark George 14 Ark There is a marriage record in Jackson Co for M. E. Matney to A.M. Stephens on Nov 1 , 1891 which lines up to this family perfectly. . Ameron/Ammon, the oldest child shown in the 1900 census (apparently a child from Marion's aka A. M.) previous marriage) married a lady by the name of Zennetly J. Williams Jan 31,, 1909 and I know I saw a census reading for him there in Jackson Co. Okay...here is the censu for Ammon in 1910: Ammon 33 Nettie 25 Andrew 8 and 6/12 Kelmer 5 7/12 Herbert 2 and ?2/12 BTW...in earlier censuses, there is another Ammon Stephens in the area who I would assume is this kid's uncle...brother to Marion aka A. M. Stephens. In 1920 Jackson Co, Bird/Byrd Township, I found the following who may be your George: George Stevens age 22 Ark Rosa 19 (can't read where she was born) I did not see a marraige record in the Jackson Co information on line for George and Rosa, so possibly they married in a nearby county. Bird Twp was one of the northern twps of Jackson Co and it's possible that Rosa was from one of the counties that surrounded Jackson near Bird Twp. Records for these families were found using both the spelling Stephens and Stevens. . **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. 2. Gayle, It appears that the family falls off the map after 1900. I have not been able to locate GEORGE'S brother or sister. His father was much older than his mother. He may have died and she remarried. Could be the children took their stepfather's name. Linda **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. 3. Folks, this is a reminder that any post to a list that starts with the phrase "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." has been "gatewayed" from the surname Board to the surname List. Simply, this means that the original post was sent, in this case, to the STEVENS Board and, because the "gateway" between the Board and List has been opened, was also automatically re-sent to the STEVENS List. BUT, this means that unless the original Board poster is also a member of the List (and most are not), any replies to a gatewayed post sent to the List will NOT be seen by the Board poster. If you wish to reply to a gatewayed post in such a way that your reply will be seen by the Board poster, you must do so by clicking on the "Message Board URL:" link, and reply using the Board response system. Thanks. Peter STEVENS List Admin. 3. I believe that Henry Clay Stephens was born about 1810 or 1811 - son of William and maybe Nancy ? - in or near Bedford County. His first wife was Celina (Salina) Martin. I have the names of their children but don't have dates for all. Henry' s name sometimes appears as H.C., Hay C., or just Henry. In 1866 Henry married Virginia Howard in Bedford County. I am assuming that Celina died because some of the younger children moved to Knox County, Kentucky with Virginia and Henry. Virginia and Henry had seven children, among them my grandfather, Matison A. I do have names and dates for these children and for most of their families. I have not posted any of this, because I am waiting for my cousins to verify dates, etc. from their family records. 3. Hi David, > I don't show a Jonathan on my list Thanks! I corrected my email to the Killingworth list, but forgot to correct it here. I, too, do not have a Jonathan as a son of Josiah, sorry about that. > The name elNATHAN is so curious and unusual, but joNATHAN is rather common. Unfortunately, the name Elnathan isn't that curious in Killingworth at the time. According to the same Barbour collection there are several Elnathans. I only looked at a handful of the records but I found that the name runs heavy in the Hurd and Stevens lines, but it's also in the Griswold, and Smith lines as well as others, especially in that 1700-1800 range. > I wonder if Jonathan is > also born in 13 April 1703 and > had a son named Hiel. Yes, Jonathan was born April 13, 1703, and I agree that they are probably one and the same (I doubt they were twins). It does make it more difficult to get into colonial organizations though when names don't match. Jonathan had no children according to the Barbour collection, and Elnathan never married (I see a problem there <grin>). I played with some period script and the period Js didn't tend to drop below the line -- it's possible that the name is Elnathan, which is why I wrote to the Middlesex County folks to see if anyone can send me a copy of the original marriage record so I can see what I think the name is. I do strongly believe that it's Elnathan, but from an outsiders point of view (i.e. lineage societies) I can see how they might have a problem with this. To them, who's to say that that Mary Hull married a son of Josiah? Here are the Elnathan Stevens from Killingworth according to the Barbour Collection Elnathan Stevens son of Josiah, born Apr. 13, 1703 Elnathan son of Elnathan and Mary b. Jan. 28, 1729 Elnathan Jr. m Surviah Williams Nov. 25, 1754 and Hannah Burrus Nov. 27, 1766 Elnathan son of Elnathan and Hannah b. Dec. 6, 1770 And of course Hiel, son of Elnathan & Mary b. March 22, 1737 Thanks, Linda.
