Hello, folks, I'm writing this to advise you of certain difficulties RootsWeb has had over the past several weeks in delivering mail to certain of its lists. In the most recent occurrence, earlier this week, the problem was affecting lists that are on RootsWeb "lists8" server only. This list is on that server, hence this post. Briefly, the problem is that a number of smaller ISPs make use of various commercial services in an effort to control spam. One of those services is SpamCop ... you can find the SpamCop home page at: http://www.spamcop.net/ . Unfortunately, this particular spam control service doesn't really care very much about the accuracy of its protective services. In this recent instance, the RootsWeb "lists8" server was "blacklisted" by SpamCop and thus any ISP that uses this commercial service has rejected all legitimate list mail that it has received from RootsWeb for delivery during the period of outage. The result has been that significant volumes of legitimate list mail to various lists have been undelivered and many subscribers have been bounced off their lists. If you're wondering why the list was quieter than usual earlier this week, this is the reason. SpamCop blacklists for 24 hours and then removes the blacklist item. RootsWeb has done all it can to resolve the issue. They suggest that one thing that subscribers can do is to contact their ISP and request that RootsWeb list mail be "whitelisted", meaning that it will be delivered and the SpamCop settings will be ignored. This will help if the situation reoccurs again in the future. Happy to respond to any subscribers' questions on this, of course ... there are many technical details I haven't provided in this notice ... pls contact me OFF-LIST at: [listname]- admin@rootsweb.com <mailto:admin@rootsweb.com> Regards, Peter Wyant List Admin.
This is a shot in the dark, but I'm looking for my aunt, Mary Ann (sp?) Stevens born about 1937 in the area of Ashton, Illinois (Lee Co. or neighboring Ogle County). She is the daughter of Richard Jennings Stevens and Isabelle Rogers Stevens, who were married for mere months when teenagers. Richard Stevens b. Sept. 5, 1918 in Ashton, IL and d. March 20, 1961 in Rockford, IL. Apparently Mary Ann was taken away from Illinois "back East", possibly to Connecticut, by her mother when less than a year old. This left my grandfather, Richard Jennings Stevens, alone in Illinois. In 1938 he married Carmen Baker, and they eventually had five children. My Aunt Sylvia recalls receiving a phone call from Mary Ann in 1961, asking for the cause of Richard's death. It was PKD, and Mary Ann had it too. She was pregnant at the time, so I know I have at least one more cousin out there, probably with PKD, approximately 44 years old. All five of your siblings want to meet you, Mary Ann! I'm your niece, Lisa, the family genealogist, daughter of eldest Carol. I'd love to add another branch to the extensive tree of the Stevens family of Connecticut. Lisa Marcinek

She was the daughter of William and Rebecca Stevens. She married Sands Randall c. 1867. Their first child, Augusta Mae was born in Shirley on 12 Oct. 1867. Rose's sister, Mary , who was born in 1847, married Sands' older Brother Alonzo. Family legend is that the Stevens sisters were half Native American, but I have never been able to verify this. I would love to share Randall information with you if you would like. Wynona

His status remains missing or buried at sea and his name is honored on the Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We have found the following reference at the Indiana State Library website; World War II database. We do not have the information because we do not have access to the microfilms here in the Philippines but we are hoping for some help from our posting. Our goal is to find the families of Indiana servicemen and present them with free photographs of their loved one’s grave sites or their names as they appear on the “Tablets”. This information will increase our chances of finding the families. Please help us! Reference: Indianapolis Star August 13, 1942 Decorations Page 3, Column 4 Hello, I am a retired American veteran residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. A year ago we visited the memorial as visitors but came home with a mission in our hearts. As we gazed over the beautifully manicured acres and the 17,202 American graves, it was obvious only a few families had ever visited their graves. I stepped into the soft grass and focused my camera on one of the white crosses, a grave of an Ohio soldier. A strange calmness was in the air as I walked a few more steps and a cross of an Indiana soldier lay square in my path. The letters of the inscription on the marker was bolder than ever, here lay a soldier from my home state. At that moment a quiet brainstorm aroused my humble thoughts. I wondered if I could locate any of the families of these men. My stride became more defined and within a few moments I had located and photographed eight more graves. Since those gut-wrenching but touching moments we have energized our efforts in finding the families of these American men from Indiana. We have located well over 100 and have delivered the FREE photographs to them via email. Please visit our website and see the men we have honored and the families we have assisted in finding a more genuine closure of a horrible tragedy. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ Our success in finding the families was the result of journalists, amateur genealogists, historians, historical societies, librarians and lots of wonderful Hoosiers and those with Indiana ties across America. During our search we have also reached families from other states as well and have filled special requests for photos from the Manila American Cemetery. We presently have photographed only the graves of the Indiana soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen; however we have photographed all of the names that are engraved on the "Tablets of the Missing". We offer them free of charge to anyone who asks. We ask for your help in finding their families. We understand this is a genealogy board but we do not need immediate genealogy in that form, we need leads to find the families. Please become one of our special volunteers today and find the family of an Indiana serviceman from near your home. A list of the men from your Indiana county is available, free and all you must do is request it. Roscoe C. You may send it to me directly, or on this page. My gr.grandfather wrote out as much of the genalogy as he could - nad he spelled that last name as Stevens. But, one of the marriage licenses is under Stephens. Lots of misspelling that people didn't correct, and a hundred years down the line, things get right confusing! If you would like, I have info aobut BF Stevens and BF Fleenor, both of whom attended a bible college in Hartsville IN. We think BF Stevens introduced BF Fleenor to his sister - it would be quite logical. Theirs is a story with a lot of tragedy, including losing two babies in less than one month. My grandmother was born AFTER he two siblings died.
