I typed John Stevens instead of James Stevens (which is the correct name). Sorry if I confused you. I didn't realize it till just now. Anyway, Marcus and Martha were married in Estill Co. Ky. 4-4-1885 in the home of James Stevens. James is suppose to be her father. Martha was suppose to have been born in Clark Co. Ky. I have no other info on her or her family. Family tales have it that her family may have come from North Carolina at some point. My Grandmother and her brother always claimed they were part Native Indain. so, if the family originated in North Carolina is is highly probable! Thats the problem with Family stories carried down... no proof.. Well, again I am sorry for the typing error but any help greatly appreicated!! Sharon Barker McGlone

    1. George STEVENS
    2. Linda Wells
    3. Hello STEVENS Listers, I have been trying to figure out what happened to my gggg grandfather, George STEVENS. I found him and his wife Mary, and their children, Samuel, George, Mary, William, Thomas, James, John, and Hester, in the 1841 census living in Barrow Gurney, Somerset, UK. The problem is that George is not listed with his wife and children in the later census but in the 1851 and 1861 census' his wife, Mary, continued to say she was married. There were other George STEVENS born around the same time in the same county but I haven't been able to find any that were strays anywhere. The 1841 census shows George as a 40 year old farmer, and his wife Mary was also listed as 40. The 1851 census shows Mary as married, head of household, and a farmer with 56 acres. The 1861 census shows her as married, head of household, farmer of 70 acres with employees. Does anyone have any information on him, his whereabouts, or his family or any ideas on what might be up with his wife continuing to say she was married. Any help is greatly appreciated. Linda in California

    3. Folks, this is a reminder that any post to a list that starts with the phrase "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." has been "gatewayed" from the surname Board to the surname List. Simply, this means that the original post was sent, in this case, to the STEVENS Board and, because the "gateway" between the Board and List has been opened, was also automatically re-sent to the STEVENS List. BUT, this means that unless the original Board poster is also a member of the List (and most are not), any replies to a gatewayed post sent to the List will NOT be seen by the Board poster. If you wish to reply to a gatewayed post in such a way that your reply will be seen by the Board poster, you must do so by clicking on the "Message Board URL:" link. Thanks. Peter STEVENS List Admin.
