    3. Lisa, The thing that helped me the most was Obit's - If you are able to Obtain an Obit on each of these people - U can Glean a Lot of Info from them & create a Chart of the Various Family members. also Obtaining a Death Cert can provide Parents Info a lot of times. Once U know Parents then U can Look them Up on the Census records circa 1880 - 1900. Try checking with the Newspaper Archives in those cities & see if U can obtain Obits. Also check with the Funeral Homes - they sometimes have Info that is helpful in their records . You should be able to go ONLINE there and get CENSUS records. My local FHL have copies of census microfilm; online is easier! Or, contact local resources in Kentucky via the US Gen Web project: http://www.kygenweb.net/index.html There should be local resources that will do look up for you, probably for free.

Ask the library if the access to the American Genealogical Lending library. Try to local a Family History Center (LDS) in your area. See if there is one near you. Purchase a book on how to do genealogy research. See if there are any classes on how to do research in your area. Good Luck.

Michigan has had death records since 1867. The death certificate should have his parents names. Did he have a social security card? If so write to the social security office for his social security application. It should have his parents names on it. Be sure to get a copy of his obituary from the local newspaper. The local libraries usually have films of the old newspapers. Join Ancestry so you can have access to the census records. It is well worth it. Myra

Since Edwin (1920) was born in Kentucky, and Neil (1927) was born in Michigan, it appears the family moved from KY to MI between those years. Does the family appear in the 1920 census? Do you have birthdates for all the siblings? Missing are: Betty, and Nadine. Marriage date for John and Mrytle? John would have been age 20 in 1905; likely married for 1910 census; do they appear there? If so, WHERE? Are other STEVENS or LONEY familes in the same area of Kentucky?

    1. Need help George & Mary STEVENS of Somerset Co., England
    2. Linda Wells
    3. Hello list, I have hit a brick wall and don't know where to go from here. I have posted this family to the list sometime back but I was only looking for any possible connections. This time I'm wondering if there is SKS that has more knowledge than I do that might be able to help? The 1841 census of Barrow Gurney, Somerset County, shows George STEVENS, a farmer, born in Somerset County, between about 1797 to 1801, and his wife Mary STEVENS, born Chew Magna, Somerset Co., between about 1800 -1803, and eight of their ten children (all born in Somerset): Sarah STEVENS, born about 1819 Samuel STEVENS, born Barrow Gurney, about 1819 George STEVENS, born Barrow Gurney, about 1825 Mary STEVENS, born about 1825 - 1825 William STEVENS, born Barrow Gurney, about 1828-1829 Matilda STEVENS, born about 1829 Thomas STEVENS, born Barrow Gurney, about 1830 James STEVENS, born Barrow Gurney, about 1829 - 1832 John STEVENS, born Barrow Gurney, about 1835 - 1836 Hester STEVENS, born Barrow Gurney, about 1837 - 1838 One of the problems is that the father George STEVENS is not living with his wife Mary in the 1851 or 1861 Barrow Gurney censuses yet she continued to say she was married, and I can not find a death for him or him living as a stray anywhere. I also can't find the father George's birth or baptism date or place in Somerset. I *think* his wife Mary's maiden name was Mary KING but I haven't been able to find her birth or baptism record, or their marriage record. Mary is not found in the 1871 or later censuses so I think she died between 1861 - 1871. I have searched Free BMD, ancestry.com, all the parish records for Somerset County that I can find for those years online, and the Somerset Marriages CD. Any help much appreciated. Linda in California

I have a William Stephens: 1. WILLIAM (CK) 2 STEPHENS (HENRY1) was born 1780 1, and died 16 Feb 1857 in Henry, Vermillion Parish, Louisiana. He married RACHEL WELSH (CK) CLARK2 1807 in Opelousas, St.Landry Parish, Louisiana, daughter of MATTHEW CLARK and MARIE ROBERT. She(Rachel) was born 1792 in Opelousas, St.Landry Parish, Louisiana3, and died 3 Mar 1859. My William appears in Louisiana at the beginning of the 1800's and I have nothing on who his parents were. The above Henry Stephens, is the speculation of a cousin. There was a Henry Stephens married to a Roseanne OFerry in Natches in the right time frame to be William's father. I'm wondering if there could be a connection between the Henry Stephens and your Stephens and the Clarks, Coles and Roberts. Do you have anything that could possible help me? Terry Larson

Since all of John Brown Stephens children were born in MS I guess this can't be my line. James D. Stephens was born in KY about 1827. He married in Morgan Co., MO about 1848 and there were two older Stevens/Stephens in Morgan Co. in the 1850 census. One was a John Stevens who had been in MO about 10 years as the first of his children to be born in MO. was 10 years old. In Campbell Co., KY I found a Reverend John Stevens who left that area about 1840 but I haven't been able to find a list of his children. With so many Stephens /Stevens families and so many John's and James' they are pretty hard to sort out. Need to get back to the LDS library. Thanks again. Pat

I know many of records in MO were destoryed in some counties. I suggest you search the KY 1830 Census Index for STEVENS, STEPHENS, STEPHENSON and STEVENSON. The only ones you will want to check are those families that have a child or children 0-10. I know it is had work but it may pay off. Did you check to see if you could an obituary? I found John Brown STEVENS that way. Many family traveled together as they moved westward. How many KY families were living in James D. STEPHENS area? I was searching for my GG Wm.J. CAMPBELL and I found a deed that said he was in Sumter Co., AL. When I got the census records I found my KERR family was also living there. I wish you luck

The Henry Schick i am looking for was born in New Jersey (although he thought it was New York) in 1899. He was sent on an orphan train from New York to I don't know where around the year 1910. Since that time, there has been no trace of him anywhere. So, when I found a Henry Schick born around the same time in New York living somewhere random in 1910 (i.e.-the orphan train could have sent him to Texas)., I got excited. These are the people the census lists him living with and their ages: Robert E Stevens 35 Annie E Stevens 32 Ardath E Stevens 7 And this is the city: Justice Precinct 7, Denton, Texas All i'm looking for is to see if someone knows anything about this Henry Schick living with this family just to see if there is a connection to the one i'm looking for.
