Linda, I saw your posting on the Stevens site and was wondering if you have a record of my GGG grandfather, Noah W. Stevens. He was born about 1790 in Maryland ( I believe it might be Caroline Co.). He married Mary Warren on 3 May 1819 in Caroline Co. They moved to Ohio and are in the 1820 census for Pickaway Co. The Only child I have found is Elizabeth born 10 May 1828 in Ohio. She is my GG grandmother. She married Andrew McCabe 10 July 1851 in Pickaway Co. Noah died in September 1850 in Ohio and Elizabeth died 2 November 1911 in Spokane, Washington. Her husband fought in the Civil War from Ohio. I have a picture of Elizabeth along with her marriage certificate and death certificate. Any help in appriciated. Hi Bob & List I had to search 3 databases & found 2 or 3 Columbus STEVENS in KY & TN and 2 STEVENS lines in SC that go back to Duchess County, NY & the line of Cyperian STEVENS. Wilford STEVENS of LA, who married Mary MARCHBANKS also goes back thru SC & might also be the line that goes back through Cyperian. Seems like maybe one of the younger Cyperian's or his sons went to SC or GA. The name Columbus should make it easy to trace. You have me curous, so I'll keep searching if you'll send more details to my address, ok ? Hello Linda & List I just revisited the family of Jacob STEVENS & Rhoda DOSS in the McCormick Cemetery, Highland Twp, Wapello, IA. At least 4 generations buried in one cemetery. And I found a Warren STEVENS in the cemetery with no family mentioned, but if he is Jacob's family and my Thomas Stevens family also had a Warren LaFayette STEVENS, then maybe I should add them to my possible list again. David, would you happen to have any information on Stevens families from South Carolina in the 1820-1830 time frame? My 2nd grgrandfather was John Columbus Stevens, known as CC Stevens from NE Mississippi. The earliest date I have on him for sure is 1848 in Chickasaw Co, MS. when he married Caroline Philley. My biggest problem is that I have several birthplaces listed for him on different Census forms. On is abt 1825 in GA; another is 1823 in MS. Would you have anyn information on any Stevens families who migrated to NE MS. in the early 1800's? Any information would be of great help to me. Thank you. Bob Holt I try to keep a file on Every Stevens family and I do have Hiel and his son Edmund, but no info at all on Edmund. If you'd like to send it, I'll be glad to add his descendents & pass the info along to your other cousins.
Hi Linda & List I had written a reply to that Kentuckiana board message. The person seems to be looking for Jacob Brod STEVENS & Rhoda DOSS. Jacob & Rhoda were the very first couple I tried linking my Thomas to. I didn't find anything 25 years ago. Perhaps it's time to try them again. I'm guessing Jacob Brod is of the Stevens of Frederick County, VA, but I'm not sure. I used to have more info on his family, now I only have 2 sons: Nathan & Abraham Veatch (physician). I know Abraham followed the migration to Iowa & is died in Wapello County, IA. The Stephens City, Frederick, VA STEPHENS do have Wilford and Lawrence in the family, but no Arvilla, so I get easily confused. :-) Does your line go back to Thomas STEVENS of Devonshire, ENG, or are you connected farther back ? I try to keep a file on Every Stevens family and I do have Hiel and his son Edmund, but no info at all on Edmund. If you'd like to send it, I'll be glad to add his descendents & pass the info along to your other cousins. On 6/26/07, Linda Trent <lindatrent@zoomnet.net> wrote: > > Have you tried a Jacob Stevens? Have you tried a Jacob Stevens? He's listed in the 1820 census in Harrison County, Indiana, no township listed. At http://www.kentuckianagenealogy.org/boards/messages/14/1192.html there is a person looking for information on a Jacob Stevens and Rosannah Doss from Harrison County, Indiana who had a son named Nathaniel Stevens that was born in 1824 in this county... This is the Find-A-Grave site for James & some of his family. I hope this helps people sort out a few of their Harrison County, IN Stevens/Stephens. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=19825751
I am glad to see that several people know my Thomas STEVENS, but sadly nobody has yet found a father for him. I keep stumbling over Mark's linking him to Benjamin & Nancy Arnold, but I'm not convinced. For one, a person who claims to be a descendent of Benjamin & Nancy says Thomas "Missouri" STEVENS went straight from Harrison, IN to western MO. He failed to convince me that Benjamin & Nancy are not his parents. But I remain open to both, but still seeking evidence. The main evidence is having a Wilford STEVENS in the family and so very few in this country, but many of them in the Kentuckiana area. I see some people have linked my Wilford 1839 McDonough, IL STEVENS to Wilford & Elizabeth Crosier or Wilford & Mary Marchbanks. My Wilford may have married a "Mary" but also maybe not. He did marry Louisa Thornburgh who seems to have followed the same migration. Louisa is also buried in Madison, IA (I have a photo of her headstone) Wilford also married Sarah Jane BORING, who seems to have followed the same migration, but possibly with stops in OH & WI (maybe not) Sarah Jane is my great grandmother and she's buried in Joplin, MO Wilford is buried in Joplin, MO Thomas & Amelia "Emmalia" STEVENS are buried in the King Cemetery, Scott Twp, Madison, IA
