    3. Hello again 'cousin' , I have tried 'Find-A-Grave' several times. Also, I have bounced off the SSN Death Records---which do not display middle names or initials---whereas, I made some very long trips to Erie, NY and Amity, PA to find the gravestones had a different middle initial ---and the church records confirmed that these two individuals were not the --- Merle [Merlin] CAREY Stevens that I seek. I have been searching for MCS since 1949---visiting SC, GA, AL, MI, MS, TX, NM, FL, TN, KY, NC, VA & West VA., and I should have recorded all the STEVENS headstones that I saw. I should add that he had no war record, but I did find his WW1 draft registration card showing that he a right ankle problem and was exempt from the draft at age 22. Other than a birth 'notification'---a one-line entry in the town record of Roanoke, AL that was called in 10 days after his birth in Rock Mills, AL ---there is no official or 'delayed' birth certification. Talk about 'brick walls'. Thanks, Prof.M.Stevens momo7@sover.net ================ David Stevens wrote: >I searched most of the night on this one and a few others. >I did a variety of searches on the 1930 census. 3. When I get frustrated at my own brick walls, I like to switch & work on other people's brick walls. It usually helps to get a different perspective. I have a Cherokee ancestor, Lemuel Dugan Long, and he is surrounded by so much mis-information, I get my kids to work on him, because they don't know the false trails. :-) I'm sure I'll add yours to my project & look for him when all my doors seem closed. 1. [STEVENS] Harrison County, IN Stevens
    2. Charlie Cox
    3. I have not researched the Harrison county Stevens and I was looking back through the previous posts when I noticed the family of Jacob Stevens and Rhoda Doss. Not sure how I overlooked this email before. I am looking for a John Doss(or Dawson) Stevens, who lives in Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio in 1850. Jacob is the first Stephens/Doss relation that I have found. I did see that Jacob supposedly bought land in Harrison county around 1809. This is about the time that my John was born - in Indiana. I noticed that their children seem to be sparsely documented so far. I have not located John in 1840 as there are a few possibilities in Indiana - including Harrison county. In 1850, there is a Joseph (b. abt 1830) living with John, and an Edward(b. abt 1826) living next to him. Also in the same township is an Elizabeth(b. abt 1830) whose daughter lives with Edward in 1870. I know John is somehow related to a James Stephens in Lawrence county, 1820, then Martin county in mid-1820s until his death in 1842. According to one of James' children, he was born in NC and his first wife was born in TN. There are other Stephens in Martin county in 1840 - Thomas Willet Stephens who came from TN near Knoxville and Richard C. Stephens that I can not find in 1830 - I think is related to Thomas. Also there is a William Stephens b. between 1800-1810 that is only there in 1840. Many of the names are similar to those of Harrison county and I see that Benjamin in 1850 is listed as born in TN. In 1830 in Harrison county, I see Jacob and Thomas are of the same age as the James I am researching(b. in the 1170's/1780's. I'm getting the picture that there was a mass Stevens migration from NC and TN in the late 1790's and early 1800's. Charlie p.s. I leave today for a couple of days, so I will follow up when I return. 3. I searched most of the night on this one and a few others. I did a variety of searches on the 1930 census. I tried all of his names and I tried misspelling his name (which works more times than I'd wish), but not on Merle Merlin Carey Stevens. For a "final resting place" search, have you tried "Find-A-Grave" ? I use FIND-A-GRAVE quite a lot & I did a variety of searches on it and found a dozen or so possible names and a few even had a close birthdate, but didn't seem to match. You never know when someone like me will find his grave & take a headstone photo & post it. Are there other sites like Find-A-Grave ? 3. This is the first query I have posted to the list, but I am very interested to learn if any of you know of a Rebecca STEVENS, probably born 3 AUG 1806 in Whitestown, Oneida, NY, died 1 APR 1872 in Mexico, Oswego, NY. I do not know the STEVENS family into which she was born. On 10 MAR 1825 Rebecca married Levi HOWARD, b. 23 APR 1803 in Fort Ann, Washington, NY. Levi was the son of Benjamin HOWARD and Rhoda BIRGE. If you know of Rebecca STEVENS I would appreciate your response. Nancy Mayne

    3. Does anybody know JON FAIR ? He's the person who told me that my Thomas Stevens b. 1813 ,Harrison, IN is NOT the Thomas "Missouri" Stevens b. 1813 ,Harrison, IN son of Benjamin Stevens & Nancy Arnold. In Harrison County, Indiana, has anybody sorted out all of the Thomas Stevens, Benjamin Stevens, James Stevens, John Stevens, William Stevens, etc ? How many people are working on a Stevens line (or any family line) through Harrison County, Indiana ? I have several similarities with the Thomas Stevens of Paul R Dafft, but without that northern migration thru Indiana, I can't see a connection. Thanks, DS
