    3. yep, that's why they are buried there. I also found a Stevens / McCORMICK connection in , Harrison, IN Which line do you follow for Jacob's paternal line ? I've been adding some new lines to my database that really seems to answer lots of questions about the VA, KY, IN, IL, IA, MO migrations. 3. Dear David: I have been watching this exchange and wondering if there could be a connection to our family. Earlier you mentioned the Cincinnati which is just across the Ohio River from Kentucky where my husbands GGrandfather was born. Now in this e-mail you mention migrations to MO which is where he moved to. So I have to ask. Do you have a James D. Stevens/Stephens in your line. He was born 1827-30. I have traced him to Morgan Co., MO in the 1850 census. He was married to Sarah O. ? and they had one year old John. Also in Morgan Co in that census there was John M. Stevens, age 61, born KY. The first of his children to be born in MO., twins, were 10 years old so he had been in MO. about 10 years. This John is possibly the Father of James D. In Campbell Co., KY I found a Rev. John Stevens who left that area about 1840. Campbell Co., KY is very near Cincinnati. Also in the 1850 census for Morgan Co., MO. is a Jacob B. Stevens, age 69, and wife Rhoda, 67, both born in KY. They had 11 Children living at home. In Cole Co., MO, next door to Morgan Co there was a James Stephens, b. 1825; married to Mary Ann Hale in Moniteau Co., MO, also next door to Morgan Co. His brother John, sister Elizabeth and Brother William Edward. Their Father is said to be William, married to Clarinda Farris. I am pretty sure these two families are related. Does any of this fit with what you know about your Stevens family? 3. Hi M&J, I like your story too. I think most of us, when awake & not brain boiled by this summer heat, know some of the major world event battles. I assume he was talking about Airiad FitzSTEPHEN, the knight. I don't know much about him yet, but I assume most of us will eventually connect back to him, even if we are English, Welch, German, Greek, French or whatever we think we are. I am trying to remember the stories about the printers in Paris named Stevens. I'm trying to remember the brother's names and their father's name and the years they lived in Paris. Were they French or Swiss ? And which book did I read this out of ??? 3. Cousin David, One thing about searching for MCStevens is that I've overturned a heap of information and climbed way back up into the the Family Tree ---thirty-three generations, to the year of 1211---Battle of Hastings. I am related to 22 million people now. I have found some really interesting characters, a few ancestors of mine led extraordinary lives---with swords and pistols. A pistol of example--- "Hosmer" E. STEVENS, deputized U.S. Field Deputy Marshal in the year of 1901 at the age of 94 in the Arizona territories. Long, long story---very condensed version follows : Many years before the Civil War, or War Between The States--- James Edward STEVENS---ancestral cousin, (and I was not even looking for him when I picked up his trail) from Putnam County, GA Seems that he shot and killed a gentleman, in defense, who was flirting with his fiancee---the family of the gentleman decided to come after him---so James and fiancee fled to Alabama. Shortly afterward, they fled further into Oklahoma, where she died after several years. James crossed into the Arizona Territories into Roswell, which is now New Mexico, spent the night on the trail but shot a guy just before daybreak and then fled, again. James decided to take up with some Mexican desperados and make a living from the fruits of Stage coaches and wagon trains. They rested in Mexico, just across the Rio Grande. And then one day, near Tuscon, and while he was "hosmering" or shoeing a horse, he was approached by a US Field Marshal. "I've been watching you." said the US Marshal. Hosmer had hung his guns just inside the livery stable doors and thought for sure he had finally been caught. "I like the way you take care of horses, Hosmer" (seems the name Hosmer stuck). "How would you like to work for the Field Marshal's office?" said the US Marshal. "I need someone that can take care of our horses." ---So "Hosmer" (James) Edward STEVENS ---my ancestral cousin---worked for years as a "hosmer", cook for the jail, janitor and pinning up wanted posters around town for the US Field Marshal's office--before he was Deputized in 1901 at the age of 94. 3. Sorry, but the Battle of Hastings was 1066, when William the Conqueror (aka William the Bastard, A Norman King) beat King Harald. The Bayeux tapestry is featuring events of that battle. Check for another battle on the date you give. They had battles all the time back then. One funny one? The Muslims noted that the Crusader Knights all wore their heavy army in that hot sun, and they always rode stallions in order to carry the rider and the weight of his armor. The Muslims came out, riding mares that were in estrus, the stallions wanted to make love, not war, and the knights were thrown to the ground, where they were easy victims to Muslim arrows and weapons! ----- Original Message ----- From: M&JStevens To: stevens@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2007 6:55 PM Subject: Re: [STEVENS] Stevens - census lookup Cousin David, One thing about searching for MCStevens is that I've overturned a heap of information and climbed way back up into the the Family Tree ---thirty-three generations, to the year of 1211---Battle of Hastings. I found a ton of information about "Hosmer".---it was so easy----some are not brick walls. -----Prof.M.C.Stevens momo7@sover.net =============================== David Stevens wrote: >When I get frustrated at my own brick walls, I like to switch & work >on other people's brick walls. 3. I just found that someone has attached Jacob Brod STEVENS to Joseph STEVENS and Jerusha STOW and this line goes back to John STEVENS & Alice ATKINS of CT. They also claim Rhoda DOSS was born in CT.
