Dear David, I am reposting my search on my STEVENS family so that you can?see if?you have anything in your book that might help me. I am also posting it to see if anyone?else can?make any connections as well. I am also posting to see if there is anything I can?do to?help you.? Here's a big blank for me. My great-grandfather's name was Henry Stevens. I have newspaper obits that say he died in Augusta, Arkansas, on 4 Jul?1905 and was buried in Fitzhugh, Arkansas, but although I have searched?, I have not been able to find out what cemetery he is buried in or find any records there on his death or burial. I am still hoping to find out where he is buried so if you have any clues on that from your database please let me know. ?? ? Henry was the son of John Wright STEVENS (b. in IN) and Mary NUNCASTER (b. in OH). They lived in Eagle Twp., Vinton County OH. They are both buried at what is now the Lebanon Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery, Eagle Mills, OH. ? Thanks for checking your book for me. Hi David, I think that you may be inundated with data and requests for info!!! My Name is Jan Thomas Stevens and my Stevens line comes from GA/AL, possibly through Mississippi and Louisiana, to East Texas. I was born in Greenville, Hunt Co, TX, 12/29/1938. Grandfather: Boss Blanton Stevens, b Rocky Branch, Morris Co, TX, 3/12/1879, d Greenville, Hunt Co, TX, 8/20/1965, buried at Greenville, Hunt Co, TX. Great Grandfather: Harvey Hinton Stevens, b Marion Co, TX, 7/26/1852, d Omaha, Morris Co, TX, 12/18/1927. Great Great Grandfather: George W. Stevens, b AL or GA, Abt 1830 (not the George W Stevens that went on to be a Texas Ranger and County Sheriff of Wise Co, TX - he has a different wife.) Thanks for your post. I have a longshot idea concerning something I read earlier this year. It was about 1815 Oath of Allegiance to the President of the United States of America for a Henry STEVENS that immigrated through New Orleans, LA, from one of the German states. So, just assuming for a moment that Henry's father was Henry born in Indiana and his father was Henry, born in Germany. If you can look into that, I will look into the specific detaills of what you do know about your family. I looked at the copy of the signed document for quite a while because I thought it was very cool and I'd never seen one that old before. Always, DS On 10/6/07, rsrbly@aol.com <rsrbly@aol.com> wrote: > > Dear David, > > I am reposting my search on my STEVENS family so that you can?see if?you have anything in your book that might help me. I've hit a complete dead end on him. The only sources I can find for him are the 1880 U.S. census, listed as R. J. Stevens, head of household, in Mound Valley, Kansas, birthplace showing Maine, around 1845. Father and mother both shown born Maine, but I have no names for either. R. J. was the enumerator of that census district. I know that R.J. was deceased at the time of the 1885 Kansas State census. I have found one other possible reference in the death listings for the Ancient Order of United Workmen in December 1880, name listed as Reignold J. Stevens in Mound Valley, Kansas, but I cannot find surviving records for that time period for the order. I would be grateful if you could see if he is possibly listed in your book. Thank you so much. Names of wives are most important in searching for Thomas Stevens'. I normally refer to them as husband of Dorcas DORR or husband of Olive CRANDALL or husband of Amelia GRANT. The name Harvey Hinton STEVENS sounds familure, like maybe I saw it yesterday. Not to get your hopes up too high yet. Yes, I've bitten off alot to chew, but I hate being bored and I can't understand kids walking around saying "I'm bored". Sounds like you haven't been bored much in your life either. I guess you flew P-51, P-40, F6F, F-105. I don't know much, but my brother-in-law has taught me a few things I didn't learn in the at Keesler. He says he's saving up to go fly a ME and a MiG. (I think he's joking) :-) On 10/6/07, sssefpret@comcast.net <sssefpret@comcast.net> wrote: > Hi David, > > I think that you may be inundated with data and requests for info!!! > > My Name is Jan Thomas Stevens and my Stevens line comes from GA/AL, possibly through Mississippi and Louisiana, to East Texas. Do you have birth & death dates for these people ? This cemetery has 2 named PARTON, but not yet a PAYTON, could this be a typo ? Other names are DARNELL & NOVINGER, are these family names ? Do you have photos of their headstones ? If you don't I'll try to get them for you, ok ? If anybody new is just tuning in, I am trying to identify all STEVENS / STEPHENS buried in America & the world. Right now, we have 5,822 STEVENS & 11,830 STEPHENS. I have a data base of every Stevens / Stephens / Steffins / Stephanos etc in the US census from 1790 - 1850 and I hope to link all Stevens in a census to their burial site. The biggest hurdle is the Civil War where so many were LOST !!! (Buried without being identified) I ask for your help in doing this project and in turn I will specifically search for your ancestors as a priority while searching in general. I'd like to link all of you to the Knights' FitzSTEPHEN and get you off of this Stevens site and get another million Stevens on. I hear the STEVENS DNA projects are going well and creating as many questions as answers. Cynthia Simpson Stevens - first female Stevens to graduate college - Oberlin College, Ohio 1844 Literary Degree. Roswell Hunt Stevens - incorporator of Howard University in Washington D.C., a theological seminary for the education of African American clergymen. 1866/67 Durham White Stevens - American diplomat, employee of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assassinated 1908 in San Francisco. Ezra Lincoln Stevens - at his own expense housed, fed and nursed wounded soldiers during the Civil War in Washington D.C. His wife was exhausted!
I have Edward Azel STEVENS & Tobitha SEE 19 May 1883. Is it possible they were married in "Scotland, Putnam, MO". (though the writer may have meant Scotland County or Putnam County) I found about 6 people buried in that cemetery and I'm looking at where they were born & how their families migrated. This could be the best clue to help you find where they came from. This is why I ask everybody to send a cemetery location if they know where a person is buried. Though I am not an "expert", I find that often I know somethings that are not known by people who claim to be "experts". How well do we know our STEVENS / STEPHENS family ??? Thomas Stevens rode his bicycle around the world. John Frank Stevens built the Panama Canal (convinced TR it could be done with locks), after numerous other engineers were convinced it was impossible. John Frank Stevens rebuilt the Trans Siberian RailRoad across Asia & the Harbin, China extension and bridges across lakes, rivers & canyons, etc. John Frank Stevens discovered the NorthWest Passage. Charles Stevens was the first to die going over Niagara Falls. Henry Stevens designed the now famous Harley Davidson motorcycle. John Stevens & sons designed the T-Rail used in railroads today & the screw propeller that moves most ships today. Edwin A Stevens founded the Stevens Institute of Technology (across the river from the more written about Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Please, I invite all of you to add to this list...
Yes, I do have some info on Campbell, KY STEVENS. Sadly, I've found much misinformation in these books so far. I found Peter Stevens & his wife Maria Rittenhouse of the lineage of Richard of England. But, sadly they only had one child who also had only one child who had no children. I followed Obediah from Ohio to Cuero, DeWitt, TX (where I lived in the early 80s) But, people in Texas said they didn't know who their grandparents were. I have collected quite a few photos of his family. John Stevens of NY & NJ left many of his papers from late 1600s & early 1700s American records. His letters to General Washington & President Washington give loads of information about the creation of roads, canals & railroads in the early 1800s. It's easy to see how Stevens & Fulton built their steamships using info from each other's letters and thus leading to the creation of the US Patent Office. Fulton may have completed his steamboat first, but Stevens built his a little more carefully & Fulton refused when Stevens suggested an oceanic race. :-) I am continuing to identify WHERE Stevens / Stephens are buried. Colonel John Harrington STEVENS has several books about him & his family with lots of photos. I found very little when I added him to findagrave.com earlier this year. Dear David, Still need your expert help on my G-grandfather. Edward A. Stevens. Only records I have on him is that he Married my G-grandmother in May, 1883, Putnam Co., MO. His name was listed on the marriage cert., as Edward A. Stephens. The clerk possibly mis-spelled his last name, because he didn't read or write until my g-grandmother taught him after they were married. Her name was Tobitha See. They both listed their home county as Schuyler Co., MO. I know that Tobitha's home was there, but can't find a thing on him. They lived many years in Adair Co., MO. Tobitha died there and both are buried in the Bear Creek Cemetary, Kirksvill. Edward didn't die in Adair Co. Family rumor says he died in Kansas City, MO., but I checked all records and the only one was a Edward A. Stephens iin 1931. Too early for him, because I have a picture of him and his Miller grandchildren in 1933. Taken in Kansas City.He is my main link to the past. He was born abt. 1860-1865. Where? Rumor KY.-MO.-ILL.. Who knows. My extended family have never been of help back there in MO. I have over 30 1st cousins just in the greater Kansas city area. Not one is interested.
