Author: danielmullins148 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.stevens/4173.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for the help. I know where they are buried. The only problem is that they are in a family cemetery along with many others in my family who came along the same time or even after. Because of where they are buried, back in the mountains of West Virginia, there are no records kept. My great grandmother, Jesse and Amanda's daughter Flora, is also buried there, but again, no records. I know of the partial names of their parents only through family oral history. Not much else is known by anyone. I will keep looking - you just never know. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Folks, this is a reminder that any post to a list that starts with the phrase "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." has been "gatewayed" from the surname Board to the surname List. Simply, this means that the original post was sent, in this case, to the STEVENS Board and, because the "gateway" between the Board and List has been opened, was also automatically re-sent to the STEVENS List. BUT, this means that unless the original Board poster is also a member of the List (and most are not), any replies to a gatewayed post sent to the List will NOT be seen by the Board poster. If you wish to reply to a gatewayed post in such a way that your reply will be seen by the Board poster, you must do so by clicking on the "Message Board URL:" link, and reply using the Board response system. My name is Linda Stevens. I am researching the STEVENS/STEPHENS family of Harrison Co. IN. I descend from: JOHN 1682 Eng. +? JOHN 1708 New York +MARTHA CERGIER JAMES 1746 NY. + REBECCA LAWRENCE WILLIAM 1773 VA. + LAVISA BELL JAMES 1789 VA. + SARAH BRUCE GEORGE B. 1816 IN. + HANNAH THORNBURG + LUCY DAVIS JAMES DAVIS STEVENS 1858 MO. + MARGARET REBECCA PARSONS ROY KLYDE 1887 MO. + HAZEL ABBY SHAW LIVING + BETTY GAULT ME 1947 MO. I believe the family came from England very early on. But the STEPHENS spelling once used is the Welsh spelling. I would also like to prove that the JAMES STEVENS that served in the Rev. War was the JAMES STEVENS NY>Orange Co. VA.>KY>IN. I have a lot of info on this family and would love to exchange with you. I am so happy to hear from you, to know that someone is truly interested, but I do not recognize any of these names. I do not believe these are the same, but then who knows, some where down the line they may have intertwined. The Stevens that I am looking for were more residing it Kansas. My Grandfathers name was " Edward George Stevens" or perhaps "George Edward Stevens", he died in Independence Kansas in 1927 and was born in Missouri in 1871. He was married to Lucy May Johnson also born in Missouri . We have found out that his father was "Andrew Stevens (Stephens)" also believed to have been born in Missouri. We believe that maybe Andrews parents were from P.A. And then that is as far that we have gotten. Thank you for your interest, like I said, maybe these are linked together somehow, thank you for writing, and I would like too see if these two families were connected somehow:))

Hello Linda, I'm glad to see your post this morning. I guess you've seen the "Stevens / Stephens of Harrison County, Indiana" ? It's great to see so much information in one book, but sadly so much misinformation. I still can't separate facts from "wishful thinking". But, I do have friends in Harrison County that have been helping me for nearly a year. Probably, you know the main problem is the Peter Stephens line also goes thru Harrison County, Indiana and so does a line of Richard Stevens and a German immigrant came up thru New Orleans and changed his name to Stevens. And a few other Stevens came later and every family seems to really like the names John, James, William, Thomas & Benjamin, so it gets really confusing until after they left Harrison County, Indiana. My family moved on to IL>IA>IA>WS>MO. Let's get together, soon. David On Dec 29, 2007 9:46 AM, <Sina28@aol.com> wrote: > > My name is Linda Stevens.
