And/Or. Rosena/Rosina/Rosa/Rose Stuner - Stunner Birth place Alsace/Lorraine circa 1815. They immigrated to the USA between 1847 and 1853. I have yet to find them in any ship registry. They settled in the borough of Honesdale in the county Wayne in the state of Pennsylvania. The first record I find is in the 1860 Pennsylvania census, and later in the Illinois census. But to my dismay I have been unable to trace them to their point of origin. 1. Researching
    2. Jerry
    3. Is anyone besides myself researching Antonius, Antoine, Anton Stern, Sterns, Stearns and or Rosine, Rose Stuner, Stunner from the Alsace-Lorraine or Hessen regions? My GGGrandparents immigrated to the USA between 1847 and 1853. First record is 1860 Census in Texas Township in the County of Wayne in the State of Pennsylvania. Prior to 1860 I have run into the proverbial brick wall. I have close to 700 family members to share.

    1. Introduction to the List
    2. Dear fellow researchers, My name is Gerald (Jerry) Stern; I live in California and am retired. I have been researching my family tree for approximately 6 years. At present I have 685 leafs in my tree. They begin with Antoine (Anton-Anthony) STERN, (Stearns, Sterns) b. circa 1800 in Hessen Germany, d. Unk, and his wife Rosine STUNER b. circa 1812 in Alsace-Lorraine, d. Unk. Two of their three children were born (according to family members) in Alsace-Lorraine. First was Rosine b. 11 June 1944, d. 19 Aug 1916, m. Heinrick Kellerman on 18 Sep 1866. Second was Anton Henry, b. 11 Jan 1847, d. 21 Jan 1934, m. Mary Jane Cheek on 19 Nov 1878. The third child was John A. Stern b. 12 July 1853 in Honesdale, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. d. 12 May 1933, m. Elizabeth Faust on19 Nov 1878. They arrived in the U.S. sometime between 1847 and 1853. I have yet to find the exact event. They first appear in the 1860 census in Honesdale, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. I have followed them from Pennsylvania to Illinois. But have been unable to trace back to their beginnings. This is the beginning of my tree and of course it branches out to 680 other individuals encompassing 215 surnames. Thanks for taking the time and allowing me to introduce myself and I am hopeful that our association will be fruitful. Any assistance would be appreciated Never give up the Search!!! “Searching for the beginning“ Jerry Stern

    1. Correcting my hunt for Sarah Sterns/Stearns
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Stearns/Sterns Dunton Gleason/Glezen Billups Jones Fisher Love Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2ZJBAEB/32 Message Board Post: My own grandmother's (Nellie Jones, b. 5 April 1890) family journal seems to have mixed messages, or at least, I cannot follow what she is saying. In it, she states that HER great-grandmother Gleason's MOTHER's maiden name was Sarah Sterns. Now, I'm showing Nellie's great-grandmother as being a Sally Dunton, who married Oliver Gleason 22 Jun 1809 in Worcester, Worcester County, Mass. I'm assuming the Sarah Sterns/Stearns, b. 1738, is Sally Dunton's mother. I've seen another Sarah Stearns with the same birth year, but I don't believe that person is the one I'm searching for. Oliver Gleason and Sally Dunton had six children, the first girl being a Sarah Glezen/Gleason, so it is very possible they named the child after Sally's mom....Sarah Stern/Stearns????? Will those of you who have Sterns/Stearns, Duntons and Gleason/Glezen in the Worcester, Mass. area between 1738 and 1822 look to see if there is mention of a Sarah Sterns/Stearns anywhere in your records? I can find Sally Dunton easy enough, but cannot located her mother...and maybe that mother will by my missing Sarah Sterns/Stearns. I'd certainly appreciate all the help you can give me...thanks! Thelma

    1. [STERNS] STERNS Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Lenard, Irene, and Austen STURNS taken at the Parker Studio in Baker City, Oregon. This is exactly how the names are spelling on the back of the photograph including a notation "my cousins, my father's sister's children". Based on limited research I believe this is a photograph of Leonard Orlando J. STERNS, Irene STERNS, and Austin Blair STERNS all children of Leonard Orlando STERNS and Maggie MAHAFFEY STERNS. I believe all three children were born in Oregon between 1872 and 1881 making it likely that this photograph was taken in the late 1890's or early 1900's. Irene is the youngest and appears to be in her late teens or early 20's at the time the photograph was taken. Their father Leonard Orlando STERNS, an attorney was born in Canada in the 1830's to parents William James STERNS b. in NJ and Maria SAWYER b. in NH. Maggie MAHAFFEY was b. in the 1850's in Iowa, her father having been from TN and her mother from NC. I'm hoping to locate someone from these families so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of the family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
