    1. [STEPHENS] New List administrator
    2. Hi everybody. My name is Len Kling and I'm the new administrator for the Stephens list. I've known the previous administrator, Dave Miller, for several years (via email anyway) as we BELIEVE we descend from the same Stephens family in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania - not that we've discovered the exact link yet! My great great grandfather John Stephens (1807-1856) married Phoebe Manlove in Fayette County, Indiana. Though we are quite sure he belongs to the Stephens family from PA that settled Fayette County (and from which Dave definitely descends) I'm in the same boat as a lot of you, still butting against that brick wall despite tantalizing clues here and there. While I have been researching my family tree for over 25 years this job as list administrator is totally new to me and I'm definitely still learning. Hope to get better at it as time goes on and am looking forward to getting to know the rest of you on the list in the process. Thanks!

    3. Hi Len, Welcome as new list administrator, I am sure you will be able to keep us on the straight and narrow !! I live in Cornwall, UK, as did most of my Stephens descendents, my mother being a Stephens. However, one elusive member Richard Cotton Stephens emigrated to USA with his wife Jane Butson, and six children, Charles Henry, Frederick William, Richard James, Bessie Butson, Agnes Asenath Jane & Annie D. This was in 1868, and to Grant County, Wisconsin. They had 4 children Fannie C, Birdie, Bertha & Luella May in Boscobel. Around 1889 Richard C Stephens went to Kansas, and by 1891 to South Dakota, when his wife was with him. Charles Henry married and went to Iowa in 1887, by 1910 Minnesota, and finally back to Grant County 1941. Frederick William, was in Grant County till he married in 1886. Richard James was in Grant County till he married in 1887. Bessie Burson died in GC in 1888. Agnes Asenath Jane was in Grant County till she married in 1888 to Charles Walton. Annie D went to South Dakota and married in 1897 to John A Bixler. Fannie C was in Grant County till she married in 1890 to Walter S Lathrop, and died in 1893. Birdie died in GC in 1889. Bertha died in GC in 1892. Luella May married in South Dakota in 1893 to Henry Oscar Burgi, he died in SD in 1911 she died in 1955. I have been trying to find a living member of any of my American cousins since I started back in 1992, with no luck. So if anyone recognises any of the above, or are in your desendent tree, I would be delighted to hear from you.
