    3. Becky, thanks for writing- old family story, that 2 bros., Henry and a John came with Oglethorpe to Ga. around 1733? Henry went into S. Car. Checked the Salsburg papers- no luck- there were a lot of early settlers in Ga. for fear of the indians and the Fla. Spanish that took refuge in S. Car. My ancestor a John S. Stephens was born in 1806 in what is now called Dooly Co., Ga. acording to his son's bible- I have a problem with that as Dooly was not formed til 1821. In the Dale o., Ala. census(1880) he said his parents were born in N.C. He was 74, so he should have known. In the Papers, Jefferson/ Burke Cos. , Ga. I see a lot of known kin but can't ID the Stephens'- The Halliday(sp) family were in the Jeffersn/ Burke papers(1805) and later in Dooly Co., Ga. where their daughter, Rutha Jane was to have been born as well. They married in 1832- moved to Houston,Randolph, Stewart Cos., Ga. before Dale Co., Ala. around 1952 My feeling is that the Stephens and Hallidays came from N.C. to Ga. together ot about the same time. Had an uncle in Ala. to say that most of the early settlers in Dale Co. were neighbors where they came from and I believe that is very true. 3. My Stephens after leaving N.C., as we think they did, were in Hancock, and Jasper, and I believe Upson, and then my Stephen ended up in Heard, and he may have been in Troup all in Ga. They migrated on over to Randolph Co. Al., and then there were quite a few, that migrated on out to Hopson Co. Texas. I just recived a book in the mail today, about some of the Stephens, that migrated out there. Seems as if, a lot of folks from Randolph Co. Al., ended up out there.
