You might also want to look in Columbus Cty, NC/Horry Cty, SC. There are a large number of STEPHENS/STEVENS in that area. My grandfater, who died in 1924 when my father was 8 yrs old, was always thought to have come from Tabor City, Columbus Cty, but was actually from Horry Cty (the southern edge of Tabor City is the state line). To complicate matters, his father and grandfather spelled the name STEVENS. One of his father's brothers spelled his name STEPHENS while two of his children spelled it STEVENS and the other two STEVENS.
