I'd like to thank everybody who welcomed me, both on the list and privately, to my new job as administrator. I appreciate your kindness. I'm also glad to see the list activity has picked up after a rather slow period, but obviously lots of people have been on vacation. Hope you all had a great summer. We're all subscribing to this list in the hope of making those connections that will enable us to find out more about our own families, and to help others make those same connections along the way. We want to bring attention to our research needs any way we can. People browsing the archives on this or any other list see our subject headings first of all and an eyecatching, specific title can often be the difference between someone clicking on our post, or not. Particularly when you're responding to someone's previous post it's easy not to give any thought to it - I do the same thing - but referencing another surname, town, county or time period in your heading as well as in the body of a posting gives your message that much more exposure. Hope to hear from a lot of you, especially if you haven't posted your specific research needs in a while. Thanks for your continued enthusiasm and interest. Len
Welcome Len, it is good to see the Stephens list active again. Is anyone out there related to JOSEPH W. STEPHENS/STEVENS who was born in Morgon Co., Missouri in 1855? The family was in Miller Co., MO in the 1860 census and in the 1870 I found Joseph, age 14, living with the John Coggburn family in Taney Co., MO. The Coggburn family was also in Miller Co. before the Civil War. Joseph was the brother of my husbands Grandfather, John J. Stephens/Stevens. Their parents were JAMES D. STEPHENS/STEVENS and SARAH and they had a brother, JAMES T. and a sister, REBECCA E. After the Civil was I could only find Joseph and John J. in Taney Co., MO. I would love to hear from anyone connected to this family.
