    3. Hello, I am new to the list and I am hoping for help with my STEPHENS/TUTHILL family, who lived in or near St Pancras, London, England. My 3G grandfather was William TUTHILL, born about 1810, Marylebone, London (no references found to his birth/baptism). His daughter, Ure Jane TUTHILL was born 1845. I could not initially find either Ure or her father in 1851 and 1861 census. Her marriage certificate gave her father's name as William TUTHILL, Billiard Table Maker, and her address as Barclay Street. . The only 'Ure' to be found in 1851 census was Ure STEPHENS, father William STEPHENS, Billiard Table Maker, living in Barclay Street. Extensive look into this family have since proven that they used the name of TUTHILL on official records, such as birth, baptism, marriage and death records, but the name of STEPHENS in census. The family in 1841 census is given as Wm Tuthill Stephens, M, 31, Billiard Table Maker, Born in county Jane Stephens, F, 24, Born in county Wm Stephens, M, 7, Born in county Robt Stephens, M, 3, Born in county Stepn Bigmore, M, 5, Born in county Crown St East Side, Borough of Finsbury, St Giles in the Fields HO 107/673/17/Folio 8 p8 This is the only record I have found of William using the 2 names together, though another son John, born c 1842, appeared to use both names, and his children were baptised as (first name) Stephens TUTHILL. I have been in contact with someone who knew this family, and the preferred name appears to have been STEPHENS. More recently the name of 'Ure STEPHENS' caught my eye in someone's tree in Rootsweb World Connect, and on further enquiry with the tree holder, there is a strong possibility, not yet confirmed, that Ure was Alfred's sister. From census info she was born c 1815. IGI have 2 possibilities for baptism of Ure TUTHILL in 1815 in 2 different batches, possibly/probably the same person. Ure PATTLE, father Robert, mother May Use TUTTLE, boy, father Robert, mother Mary I know from William's marriage certificate that his father was Robert, bricklayer. In 1851 Mary STEPHENS, Widow, Formerly Builders Wife, was living in same house as her daughter Ure. Does anyone know this family, and why the 2 names are used? Because I found Ure Jane as a TUTHILL at first, I think of the family as TUTHILL, but my recent contact who found Ure STEPHENS first, thinks of them as STEPHENS. Hoping that someone can help me with this conundrum Margaret
