Thanks for asking Phyllis, George's wife Sarah Brewer was born and raised in Vinton Co., Ohio. They were married there 20 Nov 1853. George reports that he was born in New York, his father was born in CANADY?? and his mother was born in New York. So he was in Vinton Co., Ohio in the early 1850's... I can not find him in the 1850 census or the 1900 (he may have died by then.) I found the in the: 1870 US Census, Bloomfield, Davis, IA; Roll: M593_386, Page: 19, Image: 40 George H Stephens 1880 US Census: Zaleski, Vinton, Ohio; Roll: T9_1074 Name: George H. Stephens The 2 census and his marriage had his named spelled Stephens - that does not mean much... I believe he had a brother named FRANK, as I found him living next to George in the Iowa 1870 census. In the 1880 census there was a 10 month old nephew named JOHN C. Stephens living with George. Wish someone could connect - George and Sarah had a pile of girls and that might have been the end of line...
